Peja Stojakovic Honored with Sacramento Kings Jersey Retirement Ceremony

Sacramento, CA – April 29, 2025 – The Sacramento Kings paid tribute to one of their greatest players in franchise history, retiring the jersey of legendary sharpshooter Predrag 'Peja' Stojakovic in an emotional ceremony at the Golden 1 Center on Sunday night.

Stojakovic, a key member of the early 2000s Kings teams that captivated basketball fans with their fast-paced, high-scoring style, saw his iconic No. 16 jersey raised to the rafters alongside other franchise greats like Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, and Mitch Richmond.

'Peja was not just an incredible player, but a true ambassador for the game and for Sacramento,' said Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé during the ceremony. 'His dedication, work ethic, and humility made him a fan favorite, and his impact on this organization will never be forgotten.'

A Career Defined by Excellence

Drafted 14th overall by the Kings in 1996, Stojakovic became one of the NBA’s most feared three-point shooters during his eight seasons in Sacramento. A three-time NBA All-Star (2002-2004) and the 2011 NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks, Stojakovic finished his career as one of the greatest international players in league history.

He ranks among the Kings’ all-time leaders in points (fourth), three-pointers made (first), and free-throw percentage (first). His deadly shooting helped lead the Kings to their most successful era, including a memorable 2002 Western Conference Finals run that many believe was unjustly cut short by controversial officiating.

Emotional Tribute from Teammates and Fans

Former teammates, including Webber, Divac, and Mike Bibby, were in attendance to celebrate Stojakovic’s legacy. Webber, who had his own jersey retired in 2009, praised Peja’s unselfishness and clutch performances.

'Peja was the guy you could always count on when the game was on the line,' Webber said. 'He never backed down, and he made everyone around him better.'

Fans in attendance chanted 'Pe-ja! Pe-ja!' as highlights of his career played on the arena screens, including his game-winning shots and his famous three-point barrage in the 2002 playoffs.

A Lasting Legacy

Since retiring in 2011, Stojakovic has remained involved in basketball, serving in front-office roles with the Kings and the NBA. He was also instrumental in Serbia’s national team development, helping nurture the next generation of European stars.

'Thank you to the Kings organization, my teammates, and the best fans in the world,' Stojakovic said during his speech. 'Sacramento will always be my second home.'

With his jersey now permanently enshrined, Peja Stojakovic’s place in Kings history is forever cemented—a fitting honor for a player who helped define an unforgettable era of basketball.
