in the glorious world of buddha dharma, there have been more women teachers & practitioners than HIStory has revealed to us. Miranda Shaw did her homework & we are the beneficiaries of her intelligent & probing mind! I read this book when it came out. I just sent it to my daughter for her birthday. Lanny Harrison
For those of us who are female practitioners of buddhism and tantra this book is a tremendous gift.
Definitely worth a read and further research. There was so much truth brought to light about women's contributions to the practice, that white westerners intentionally hid
This is a great book, it is groundbreaking in its attempt to trace histories of the women in esoteric Buddhism. I read this book years ago, and reading it again I have the same strong appreciation for the author's research and what are now, clearly reasonable assumptions. Good work Dr. Shaw!
Many of the books I have read on Tantra are basically garbage. This one, however, is that jewel that makes it worth while sifting through the garbage. It is well written, well researched, and can be understood by westerners. I highly recommend it.
Half of he book is full of references to numerous scholars of tantrism; another half are all kind of proofs, that women in Buddhism are equal to men, as if anybody objects it.It is too much. The author, apparently, is not sure of this fact and wants to prove it to all the world. Techniques of this yoga is reflected well. After all it is a good book.
The subject matter is complex and spans over millennia and also cross cultural. Reaching an western audience it would not take too much convincing about gender equality, however it being an eastern tradition there was gender division. There is ample oral as well as literary example that in matters of religiosity, gender often takes a back seat to one's level of empowerment. The Tantric texts practiced in the fringes of the society and often written in "twilight verses" is difficult to interpret-without having the necessary background. Credit to Ms. Shaw for trying.

Wonderful, magical, insightful!
I loved this book....filled with such amazing feminism yet totally balanced with the male energies described herein. The best book I have read on Tantric Buddhism and I highly recomment it.

Deputy President William Ruto has said he is passionate about women's empowerment.
The DP met several women groups at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Friday, June 10.
He signed a commitment agreement with the women groups, pledging to support them should he win the August 9, 2022, presidential election.
“To demonstrate that Kenya Kwanza is a place of women, even before the general election, we already have a woman who is the Woman Representative-elect of Kericho county. Her name is Beatrice Kemei,” Ruto told the group of women.
“I am not a prophet, but I can predict that Kenya Kwanza will produce the highest number of elected women governors in the next government.”
The DP pledged to place women’s welfare at the heart of his government operations.
“We will get rid of tokenism and ensure women, in their millions, are right at the table making critical decisions so that we can create and shape a future that has their input,” said the deputy president.
The function was attended by Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua, ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Alfred Mutua, several governors, MPs and MCAs.
The battle for the women’s vote has been gaining momentum, with both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalitions pledging to support the group in case of victory in the August 9 polls.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya said it settled on NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua as Raila Odinga’s running mate to show their commitment to the female voters.
Ruto, on his end, has promised to allocate at least 50 per cent of his Cabinet slots to women.

I’ve read a plethora of marriage books but this one is different. It unpacks the personal/marriage problems that are the root cause of our sexual problems. The author’s definition of intimacy is different from everything I’ve ever heard. I find myself constantly asking “What’s the PM (Passionate Marriage) thing to do here?” The concepts of emotional fusion (NOT a good thing), differentiation (holding onto yourself), and the importance of self-validation over other-validation have made me a stronger, healthier person, and by default my marriage is stronger and healthier. I can not recommend it enough. I share some of the others’ observations. It is quite sexually explicit, though it is done tastefully in my opinion, not for the purpose of arousal like erotica. It also is very long and wordy, but it is worth it in my opinion. I have almost entire pages underlined. Will read this one every couple of years.
This book is about much more than sex, and can change your life profoundly, regardless of your relationship status. Schnarch's approach is about personal differentiation and its concepts, if you take them in, will affect every relationship in your life, not just romantic partnerships. What separates Passionate Marriage from other books about enhancing one's differentiation is that Passionate Marriage is sprinkled with frank, and rather juicy, descriptions of sex.
