Genji will be the first hero to get one of Overwatch 2's new Mythic skins
We know Overwatch 2 will handle cosmetics completely differently than the original game as part of its free-to-play shift. It was confirmed today that there will be a seasonal battle pass with free and premium tiers and premium cosmetics players can buy from a store. In addition, loot boxes are going away for good.
On top of those changes, there will be entirely new types of cosmetics. One of those categories will be Mythic skins. These are designed as a new, higher tier of skin and one will be introduced per season.
What sets Mythic skins apart from Epics or Legendaries is the fact they will be customizable. You'll be able to swap in and out pieces, including weapons. There are different particle effects and dedicated voice lines as well.
The Mythic skin that's in the works for season 1, which starts when the game launches on October 4, is for Genji. “It’s so cool, when Genji ults, the actual face mask opens up, and it's kind of got this cyberpunk/demonic look to it,” Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller said in an interview. “As he’s moving around the battlefield, he looks so much scarier and so much cooler when that part of the skin opens up. [The Mythic skins are] customizable and they're going to be dynamic.”
Here’s some concept art for that skin, which I can’t wait to see in-game:
Overwatch 2 is getting customizable skins and the first one is for Genji.
I really dig the idea. I expect that Mythic skins will be premium purchases from the store, though there's a chance they could be the reward for reaching tier 100 on the battle pass. We’ll find out more details at a later date.
There are other new cosmetic categories as well. There will be weapon charms, for one thing. The Reveal Event showed Symmetra with a fun donut one on her Photon Projector. This week’s release date trailer showed a Hanzo one on Cassidy’s Peacekeeper too. Team 4 says one of the benefits of weapon charms is that they're cosmetic items you can actually see while playing. You can’t usually see your hero's skin while you’re in the thick of the action.
Overwatch 2 has some fun weapon charms in the pipeline, according to this concept art.
Also new are banners, which you may have seen a version of in Overwatch in the past. Players who bought Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth Collector’s Edition or Digital Deluxe received Alliance banner and Horde banner emotes for Tracer. This appears to be an extension of that for all characters, as the Reveal Event video showed Junker Queen with a banner.
Overwatch 2 will be released on October 4. The second PVP beta starts on June 28.

Mercy's got a white witch skin in Overwatch now.
Surprise! Overwatch is holding an Anniversary event a little earlier than usual this year (perhaps because there’s the small matter of the Overwatch 2 beta on the immediate horizon). That means there are about to be some new skins for you to claim, but this time, Team 4’s doing things a little differently .
The event skins are new variants on some fan-favorite Legendary skins. Team 4 has switched up the color palette on them by adding a lotta white. They all look pretty great, and I’m looking forward to unlocking all of these (especially the new variants of the Reaper and Zen ones I use all the time).
Here they all are, with the names of the original skins in brackets:
Overwatch Anniversary Evermore Reaper
Overwatch Anniversary Steelhardt Reinhardt
Overwatch Anniversary White Cat D.Va
Overwatch Anniversary Zealot Zenyatta
All gorgeous skins, now in white! I dig this approach of giving fresh life to some of the more beloved skins in the original game while Team 4 directs more creative energy toward Overwatch 2 . I can already tell white Witch Mercy is going to cause pandemonium among some players.
That’s not all, though. There are weekly challenges during the event, and you’ll once have the opportunity to earn a few sprays, player icons and skins you might have missed in the past. Nano D.Va is up for grabs during week one, with Bastet Ana and Combat Medic Baptiste to follow.

You’ll need to play 27 games in Quick Play, Competitive Play and Arcade during each week of the event to earn the respective challenge skin, but wins count for double.
Overwatch Anniversary Remix: Volume 1 event starts on April 5 and runs for three weeks.

The third and final Anniversary event is here
Overwatch ’s third and final Anniversary Remix event launches Tuesday, bringing back past Arcade brawls and seasonal events as Blizzard plans to send off the original game. Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 also brings the requisite fresh injection of new cosmetics, including remixed skins for characters like Genji, Tracer, and D.Va.
For tokusatsu fans, Genji is the clear highlight. His existing Sentai skin has been recolored to evoke the look and feel of another Sentai hero, DenziRed from Denshi Sentai Denziman . There are also great remixes for Tracer, with the graffiti-laden Tagged Tracer skin, and Varsity D.Va, a recolor of her Academy skin that looks just different enough from Hatsune Miku to not get Blizzard into trouble. Pharah’s Mechaqueen skin also gets what appears to be a Transformers-inspired recolor. Additional skins for Soldier: 76 and Baptiste can be seen in the gallery below.
While the above will be available in loot boxes — the final batch of paid loot boxes coming to Overwatch — players can also earn previously released skins (Comic Book Tracer, Marammat Symmetra, and Kyōgisha Hanzo) during the Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 event by playing weekly challenges.
Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 runs from Aug. 9-30. It’s available in the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One versions of Overwatch now.

The latest Overwatch 2 beta balance patch adds a solid buff for Mercy players.
The Overwatch League’s Midseason Madness tournament is underway and, to mark the occasion, Blizzard has added a brand new Legendary Mercy skin to Overwatch . It’s called Royal Knight Mercy and it looks pretty fantastic. Mercy is clad head-to-toe in armor and she wears a plumed knight’s helmet. Best of all, her staff is a lance with a flag on it.
You’ll have until August 19 to snap up the skin, which costs 200 OWL tokens. While you can spend around $10 to buy enough tokens, you can also earn them by watching Overwatch League broadcasts live on YouTube. For more details on how to link your Battle.net account to YouTube, check out this post :
Viewers can also earn a set of OWL team mascot sprays by watching two cumulative hours of Midseason Madness (which gets back underway at 7PM ET tonight and runs until Saturday). Watch five hours in total and you’ll earn home and away OWL skins for Widowmaker. Remember that official replay streams count toward rewards as well, so you can earn a ton of OWL tokens this week. The full schedule is here .
You can find the Mercy skin in the Overwatch League tab in the main Overwatch in-game menu. Click the Overwatch League icon below all the team logos and you can buy the skin from there.
Blizzard shed a little more light on the Royal Knight Mercy skin in a blog post . It represents “a version of Mercy in the medieval ages,” concept artist Emily Siu said. “The skin fits well with her characteristics of helping, protecting, and being a guardian of the people.” The lion crest, meanwhile, “symbolizes courage, nobility, royalty, strength, and valor.”
As was the case with the Luchador Reaper skin for the previous tournament, the Midseason Madness winners will have a special version of Royal Knight Mercy with their team’s colors created in their honor. Those remixes will be available later this year and they will also cost 200 OWL tokens each. Remember: all your Overwatch cosmetics will carry over into Overwatch 2 when Blizzard moves everyone to the sequel in October .
