OU Softball Dominates in Season Opener with Stellar Performance Against Rival Texas

Norman, OK – May 30, 2025 – The Oklahoma Sooners softball team kicked off their 2025 campaign in spectacular fashion, defeating archrival Texas Longhorns 8-2 in a thrilling season opener at Marita Hynes Field.

Under the leadership of head coach Patty Gasso, the defending national champions showcased their depth and power, with senior slugger Jayda Coleman launching a three-run homer in the third inning to set the tone. Freshman phenom pitcher Emma Johnson also made her collegiate debut, striking out eight batters in five innings of work.

'This team came out with fire,' Gasso said in a postgame interview. 'We’ve got veterans leading the way, but the young players are stepping up big. It’s going to be an exciting season.'

The Sooners’ offense was relentless, racking up 11 hits, including home runs from Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito. Texas managed two solo shots but struggled to contain OU’s explosive lineup.

With the win, OU extends its home winning streak to 42 games. The Sooners will face Baylor next weekend in a three-game series as they continue their quest for a sixth consecutive national title.
