If you're shopping for nylon rope, you need to check this out. Due to its high strength, natural elongation, and abrasion resistance, nylon is a versatile and reliable rope material. Our collection of nylon rope has the best prices on dynamic climbing ropes, dock lines, and everything in between.
Some nylon ropes are simple and designed for general purpose, every day use, while some feature technology worth talking about. Regardless of how you're using them, you’ll find one consistent detail throughout our collection of nylon ropes: durability. From 8 plait anchor lines to simple twine, we’ve searched high and low for the best and most durable nylon ropes around.
Due to its high strength, natural elongation, and abrasion resistance in dry or wet conditions, nylon rope is commonly used in dynamic climbing applications. It’s smooth texture and high shock absorption also makes it a great option for pulley and winch systems.
Nylon (polyamide) was the first synthetic material used to make rope and is one of the strongest and most favored fiber materials today. Nylon is stronger than all natural-fiber ropes and is comparable to the strength of polyester.
Many people ask what rope material is the strongest. There are ropes that are stronger than chains or even metal braid cable. Nylon, although it is a strong rope material, and stronger than any natural rope material, is not the strongest.
What is the strongest rope material?
Zylon, a PBO rope, is commonly known as the strongest rope material. HMPE ropes like Dyneema, Spectra, and Plasma are also known to be some of the strongest rope materials you can buy.
Nylon rope is not considered to be dangerous. Nylon, known scientifically as Polyamide, is a man-made material that is UV resistant, abrasion resistant, chemical resistant, and strong. Many straps for towing and cargo are made from nylon. Due to its high strength and natural elongation, nylon is often used for towing and pulling. These may be considered potentially dangerous activities, but nylon rope itself is not dangerous.
Which is better: nylon or polyester rope?
Nylon rope and polyester rope are often used interchangeably. Nylon rope has a high breaking strength as well as naturally high elongation. Because of this, nylon is preferred in applications that require the rope to absorb shock loads, like rock climbing, towing, and pulling. Nylon has great abrasion resistance when dry, but actually even better when it’s wet because it absorbs water. However, if kept in wet conditions for too long, the material may become stiff. Polyester is commonly used in static rope applications like rope access, industrial climbing, arborist tree care, and safety & rescue because polyester has slightly more strength and much lower stretch than nylon. This material offers higher chemical resistance and UV resistance than nylon and has good abrasion resistance in both dry and wet conditions. One disadvantage of polyester in rock climbing applications is that the dynamic energy absorption capacity is much lower than nylon, making it not suitable for types of use involving high impact forces.
Why do mountain climbers use nylon ropes?
Rock climbers, unlike tree climbers, expect to fall on their rope while climbing. Because of the need for a dynamic rope that stretches under load, nylon is the perfect choice due to its natural elongation.
