Four4Four: All-naked TV shows, Kim Kardashian's lookalike, Jessica Simpson changes name, and latest Beyonce/Jay-Z rumor
Shows like the “Real World” and “Jerry Springer” have been blurring out the spontaneous nudity that happens during filming for more than a decade. But these days, a new raft of shows are centering themselves specifically on those little spots of blurred out flesh.
On Thursday, VH1’s “Dating Naked” will hit the airwaves. The series follows a group of men and women as they participate in a “new social experiment,” according to VH1 description of the show.
“Filmed on a remote exotic locale, each close-ended episode will feature a man and a woman as they each date two different, naked suitors,” a release for the show explains. The show will be “edited according to network standards.”
Meanwhile, TLC recently premiered a show called “Buying Naked,” which follows nudists on their quest to find the perfect homes, and Discovery has gained attention for “Naked & Afraid,” which sends daring individuals to an island to survive with no food, no water and no clothes.
“Potentially,” said former TV producer and media relations specialist at Goldman McCormick PR Ryan McCormick. “When it comes to these various networks, the bottom line is they are looking to see what will be a successful financial venture for them.”
He said it’s no secret that sex sells.
“TV shows exist to captivate an audience. We should keep in mind that these shows would not exist if they did not have the potential to captivate an audience,” he said. “I think that the idea of nudity being accepted on a mainstream level… could be a reflection of Americans’ voracious appetite for [sexual content].”
McCormick said he suspects the acceptance of these shows relates to Americans’ tendency to seek out sexually explicit content.
“We are the most porn-viewing nation in the entire world,” he said.
But the producers behind these nude series are adamant these shows are about more than being naked.
Executive Producer Mike Kane told FOX411 the nudity featured on “Buying Naked” is meant to showcase the lifestyle of nudists, which some viewers may not be as familiar with.
“What TLC always does so well, is look at a certain lifestyle that people aren’t as familiar with, and at the end of the day, when you see the [people] that we focus on—we are taking an honest look. We’re not doing it to be salacious,” Kane said.
“Naked and Afraid” producers also insist the nudity isn't supposed to be racy.
"We never meant for this to be an exploitative show," executive producer David Garfinkle told The Associated Press. "This is a family show."
VH1 said there is more to "Dating Naked" than just nudity as well.
"When you actually watch the show, you will get to see that it’s a lot more about connecting with people than it is about the nudity," a rep for the network said.
Regardless of the intention behind the nudity, there’s a chance these TV shows could be a positive thing, McCormick speculated.
“These shows could make people more comfortable in their own bodies. On TV we are constantly bombarded with advertising showing us how inadequate we are… these types of shows could actually be a welcome refreshment,” he said. “If people watch this and they are more accepting of their bodies then great.”

Cotton enlisted artists including Ryan McGinness and Natalie Frank to contribute to the 'Take Home a Nude' benefit auction.
Even when artists are working with the same subject, the results can be dramatically different, reflecting their personal style, choice of medium, and other artistic decisions. This fundamental truth will be in evidence at the New York Academy of Art ’s “ Take Home a Nude ” benefit auction, where 112 artists, from Ryan McGinness to Natalie Frank, have each donated distinctly unique drawings made of the same nude models.
They both took part in Will Cotton ’s annual Drawing Party, in which the painter enlists fellow New York artists to get together and sketch nude models for “Take Home a Nude.” The gala, now in its 26th year, takes place tonight at Sotheby’s Upper East Side headquarters, honoring artist John Alexander.

Guests will have the chance to rub elbows with the likes of Princess Beatrice of York, Brooke Shields, Chris Noth, Padma Lakshmi, and Naomi Watts; and purchase works from such luminaries as Christo, Eric Fischl, Walter Robinson, and Kiki Smith.
What sets “Take Home a Nude” apart from other benefit auctions is the section of figure drawing works. Although a fundamental part of any arts education, the practice is overlooked among many professional artists. Back in 2002, when Cotton, an academy grad, was looking to do more figurative work, he realized he needed to get back to basics, and return to figure drawing.

“To keep myself in practice, I have to practice,” he explained. Cotton hosts regular drawing parties at his studio, which he believes fosters “a sense of community” among participating artists. “I love the New York Academy,” he added. “They taught me a lot of what I know, a long time ago.”
The theme for Cotton’s 2017 Drawing Party was the sons and daughters of the art world. Glenn O’Brien’s son, Oscar; Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn’s daughter, Coco; Anne Pasternak and Mike Starn’s daughter, Paris; and Barbara Gladstone’s grandson, Eli, joined the nude models, albeit fully clothed, each posing for 20 minutes.

Academy president David Kratz called “Take Home a Nude” a “celebration of the work that our artists are doing,” noting that the benefit is essential to the school’s continued success.
It also helps produce some pretty great art. “It’s remarkable. Same exact pose, same model, and all these different interpretations,” said Cotton. “That’s why we do it, why drawing from a live model is important.

Going naked isn't as big as it used to be.
Over the past few decades, membership in major nudist organizations has been flat or declining, and operators of nudist cruises and beach resorts are worried about a dearth of young adherents to the clothes-free lifestyle.
While nudism experienced a flowering of popularity in the 1960s and 70s, many nudists are now graying, and boosters of the so-called naturist lifestyle are keen on bolstering their ranks.
Fun in the sun: Boosters of the nudist lifestyle are keen on recruiting young people, before their sub-culture dies out
Nude beaches: Cap d'Agde in France is sometimes called the world's first nudist colony
The Wall Street Journal reports that nudist leaders are trying a number of fresh tactics to recruit young members.
Some nudist resorts offer free weekend stays to young people, and some have set up special areas accessible only to nudists under 30.
While that may sound familiar to people raised in the 60s, thanks to the popular slogan 'never trust anyone under 30', organizers say the purpose is to help young people feel comfortable taking off their clothes, so they don't feel like 'eye candy' in the presence of devotees the age of their grandparents.
Follow the signs: Nudist areas traditionally have many rules, including bans on photography and body piercings. Some rules may be relaxed for young people
A number of youth-focused nudist groups have recently been started, such as Florida Young Naturists and Vita Nuda.
Special events planned to attract young nudists include reverse-strip-poker nights, nude volleyball tournaments, naked road races and music festivals like Nudepalooza and Nudestock.
Restrictions will also likely be eased at nudist resorts, which previously prohibited body piercings and shut down pools at sunset.
In the past, some older nudists have complained that youngsters kept them up at night and behaved too rowdy, but it seems that the generations may have to come to more of an understanding, if the naturist culture is to continue into the future.
Historic scenes: Nudism has been around for decades, if not millennia. Nudist camps and resorts have seen their attendance drop, however
Good old days: Nudists hope to see a rebirth by attracting more young members
