Mittenwald buying coke
By rutherford June 19, in The Auction Scroll. Why do you think your pretty red violin was made in Mittenwald? I am absolutely no expert but it looks like more saxony to me and I love the color. I thought it was French. Then a friend told me he thought it was Mittenwald. The one hing I know to look for on a Mittenwald violin is the one piece lower rib which this has. Then I asked another dealer friend and he said Mittenwald right away. For all I know, you could be right and its Saxony. Yes, its hard to just size of scroll relative to violin in pictures. I've seen one like it somewhere, same color and back but labeled Saxony.. Not bidding on it one more string instrument in this house and we are officially a fire hazard but I like something about it. I've been thinking recently about how nice a violin without flames might look. This sounds silly but I went to a performance recently and one violinist was playing a really lovely violin, not at all antiqued and with a minimum of flaming and I just thought that it looked.. My hardingfele has no flames.. One-piece lower ribs are hardly unique to Mittenwald. The issue I have is that I don't see the triangular centering mark on the rib. Many makers made it quite prominent, for whatever reason. That scroll also makes me think you were closer than you knew when you thought, 'French'. Did you ever have the top off this violin? Mittenwald linings and their fit into the blocks do have a certain look to them. Its color, varnish look French. Mt teacher told me that she got it from her violin professor years ago. Many professional violins like that. I am not an expert of violins, and take my commnet as of such. I meant carefully vacuum inside not washing it, or sterilizing it. I hope your are kidding wash it. Congratulations Cassi. The violin doesn't look at dirty. If you want to clean out the insides, put some uncooked rice inside, shake it out. I never bothered trying to do this with my violins and I have some old ones. Usually if you play it, all critters, if any will escape. By the way, I've never seen a spider take up residence inside any of my violins! Wipe it gently with a damp paper towel, that ought to get most of the dirt off. I assume you know not to use any furniture polish or anything with alcohol in it. My father found out to his grief when he tried to clean his cello with rubbing alcohol that varnish dissolves with alcohol. Else why do they call it spirit varnish? Howdy from the original owner of this violin; my name is Elisa. I do not like heavy or thickish ones - who needs to work? This fiddle sings, really sings: it just carries your own expressiveness through it, so play what you love. I would have never parted with it, but I need a raunchy kind of fiddle on the low end - a growl on the G. Your new fiddle is a bit too fine for that, but on finer bluegrass pieces like Maiden's Prayer, it is spectacular. It is also a great swing violin! It has that litling quality that is so good for Irish music and is fabulous for classical, which is where everything starts, for me, anyway. There are violins that are great for hoedowns but sound like hell for anything refined - those violins are NOT for me! I wonder if there's any way to put sound bites on this forum as a link? But, hey, I don't even know how to put my photo on instead of the stupid default icon by my name Elisa, thanks for the reply! Jesse's eBay copy said that you needed something with a much more commanding presence Check out Mel Bay for pieces of this sort. Well, maybe not Hardanger or whatever the Norwegian style is called. I learn a lot of stuff by listening to Cds of great players. Of course, the ideal situation is to have the written music would bowings and fingerings be too much to ask, too? AND a recording. Ha, I am lusting after Jesse's present vintage fiddle! I have not yet got a replacement, as I have some other financial obligations first I play almost anything, but my focus has been on learning bluegrass for the past 17 months. I have a great ear and can tell which key a song is in and what the chord changes are, but that's relative pitch once you know your key, right? I was trained classically in public school, then developed a drug problem for years, went through a year of music school and was offered a full scholarship but couldn't kick the drugs, kept struggling with my demons and ended up in Nashville - started playing country when in Rome The rhythms and speed are different from anything I have ever done. I have a natural ability with playing swing - it just comes to me, so I like to do that, too. Bluegrass is a whole different thing. But the challenge keeps me interested. And there's a TON of music for us fiddlers! I don't make a living at music now and don't know if I could in Florida, but I get paying gigs in country clubs and other settings here and there. I'd like to be in a good band with a lot of drive. My loves are blues, swing, some jazz, some country and most bluegrass. The classical thing is fabulous but just too serious for me. And I love the interplay between a few real good musicians in a band or a jam as opposed to solo work or orchestral. One of these days I will get my photo on this site, but for now, I will leave the nerdy nebish icon. I hope my story can help someone who struggles with life as I have - thankfully, music is still a wonderful friend and solace to my soul. A lot of musicians struggle with the same issues, and I think it's a matter of tapping into that sensitivity we have and channeling it right into the music - no sidetracks. The boyfriend tells me I ain't wrapped real tight, but I'm OK with that now. Be weird but keep on playing! You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Fellow Posted June 20, Posted June 20, Hi Everyone, Where is the picture? Cassi Posted June 20, Very nice presentation and photos! Posted June 21, Fellow Posted June 23, Posted June 23, Did you get it? Want us know? Cassi Posted June 23, Hi Cassi, Thank you for the update. I would not make any comment when the auction is on going. I am not buying or selling, but love to watching. Much luck. Fellow Posted June 27, Posted June 27, Hi Cassi, Since the auction is over. I think that I am free to make comment without worry about its outcome being changed. The violin looks like one violin of my teacher, that is, a French with a strong warm sound. I am not an expert of violins, and take my commnet as of such Please let us know how you enjoy your new violin. If it is mine, I would do a good job of cleaning the violin inside and outside when it comes into my possession first time. Make sure everything fits nicely neck angle? Cassi Posted June 27, Hi Cassi, I meant carefully vacuum inside not washing it, or sterilizing it. I hope your are kidding wash it Are you? I start worry. Spiders and insects are usually very cooperative in nature. No need of any cruel treatments. They never ,ever give me trouble. Believe me. I have just read some wise words of Bertrand Rusell: The theory that the white tail of a rabit is a good design of target for hunters is appealling to many, but the rabits lovers find it disgusting. Bertand Rusell PS. I use ' fiddle brite' from William Lewis, to clean. Use hand to protect the f-hole from the nozzle of vacuum cleaner. LadyAmati Posted June 27, Again, enjoy your violin! And let us know how it sounds. Clare did i spell that right? Elisa Posted June 27, I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments and hope to stay on here and soak up information. Ciao for now, Elisa. Elisa, thanks for sharing your violin with me! Cassie, This fiddle sings, really sings: it just carries your own expressiveness through it, so play what you love. Fellow Posted June 29, Posted June 29, I have the piano piece of ' Maiden's Prayer' but I have not come across a piece on violin. I would like to get one on violin in a music store if I know the publisher. Thank you if you can help. Cassi Posted June 29, Elisa Posted June 29, Cassi, Ha, I am lusting after Jesse's present vintage fiddle! Crew was polite and attentive. Business class is awesome and worth the money. Flight left a few minutes late, but that's it. I wish the seats could be wider and recline more. You need to be alert and look for the KLM bus which is not branded or labeled. Incorrect information was provided to go to gate 28, when in fact the bus was at gate On the plus side the bus left early and arrived early to Ottawa. The flight was great, the only reason for middle scores on entertainment and food is that it was a short flight so not included but snacks were served including alcoholic beverages free of charge. I would definitely recommend KLM. Was trying to change a flight but told that Canadian and local klm systems do not interact so they could not access my booking. Overall I like klm a lot but if it was important to change flights I would be very frustrated. The whole trip was excellent. The only thing I would change is the temperature of the plane was a bit high which made it uncomfortable to sleep. The plane. Airbus A Comfortable for a 7-hour flight. Seats seemed to have more legroom. I was in row Flight was operated by Delta but was better than expected. Sitting space is the smallest I have ever seen. Lots of water brought around by staff which is very important to stay hydrated on a long flight. There provided swiss chocolate icecream! The attention to detail is obvious. They really want to make their passengers entertained and comfortable. Flight was cancelled due to technical problems with the aircraft. It would be nice if SWISS would invest in new aircraft; that would for sure minimize the technical issues with old aircrafts. However, our luggage didn t make it and this caused us a lot of problems. It was a pleasant experience accept temperature in the plane It was extremely cold in the airplane that I was shivering I got sick because of the extreme cold temperature on my flight. Very disappointing. Also, the baggage fees were very steep. It was unclear that additional passport control was needed before boarding. The seats were cramped and uncomfortable even for small persons. The arm rests were unable to be lifted completely out of the way and the media controls cut-out made them uncomfortable to lean on. One audio channel was not working on one of our seats. We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour…. Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa. Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew. Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,. The service was excellent for accessibly challenged passengers, Used lift and all support personnel very helpful. Will fly again. Flight was cancelled and I got rebooked with anther airline. Also had booked a direct flight and got a layover. Did receive lodging at no cost for 1 night. Coordination between Lufstansa and hotel was very poor and we had to pay for a meal we thought was to be paid for. Traveling from SAT to Denver coordination between Lufstansa and United was very poor and we paid double for our check-in baggage. We are hoping to that refunded. We wish other airlines would fly to Salzburg as we plan to visit more often. It was a good flight overall, I just hate it when we get delayed because there is a small amount of layover time in Munich and you have to actually run to the next gate. Very nice. Crew was excellent and our seats had great legroom which we paid extra for so I highly recommend this option when flying internationally. For this long of a flight one would expect some more service, like a snack, entertainment or reclining seats. Zero legroom or space in economy. Flight was delayed into Munich causing a missed connecting flight and other missed bookings. A major problem at the Frankfurt terminal. You see your connecting flight is on concourse A and you see signs for A, but when you start to walk out to A, only then do you find A is in another terminal which requires a bus ride, passport control and customs. If you sit around in the first terminal too long, you can miss your flight. We made ours. Extremely tight connection in Frankfurt. Tickets with one hour layover are not realistic even with first flight being on time. Just barely made it and ran most of the way. Don't fly thru London Awful and huge U need 4 hrs to transfer cuz u have to tale buses to and fro from airplanes Bad business. Staff with low service level, forgetful. Temperature at 15 C and after asking twice to raise the temperature the crew did nothing. They took good care of me on the plane and had it not been for handicap assistance I would definitely had missed my connecting flight. Not BA fault but The airport security instead. Two hours is way too long for security. The least comfortable business class seat I have encountered for a while - very very firm when reclined making sleeping difficult. Cost cutting is visible everywhere - no offer to refill drinks the wines were not good - so no real issue there : Just not worth what BA charge. They had about people overbooked. Including me. Why is this?? I was put on a flight to NC an hour later with a 4 hour layover. I was supposed to be home at am instead i was home at pm. An extra day to pay for dog care. The plane was clean. The crew were lovely. Food was good - but seat 1D is a poor location. Lost bag and absolutely no assistance in the short term. Business class to Istanbul. Packed flight. Cabin crew seemed incapable of differentiating between economy and business passengers with regard to access to the WC which meant whole flight I had people standing in aisle and leaning into my aisle seat, queueing for the front WC. Crew put it down to a lack of curtain between the two classes. The seats, for a 3hrs55 min flight were just standard seats with middle seat unoccupied. So nothing special apart from the food, which was mediocre. However 2 king prawns does not make a main course salad. Had to go the next day to collect it. KLM is my favourite airline. Never ever let us down. Staff are first class. Flight was diverted from Firenze to Pisa causing delay and inconvenience. Entertainment could be better. Choice and variety of movies was not great. Easy boarding Seats were very uncomfortable no room arm rests didn't even go up all the way. Usual issues with flight delay. Perennial problem of travel by plane. The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining. I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight. Worst airline in the world, will never travel in it again. All was good. They gave us free up grade to a roomier seat. I waited 40 minutes for my bag.
