Mike Budenholzer Named Thunder Head Coach

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Budenholzer Named Head Coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City, April 15, 2025 – In a stunning move, the Oklahoma City Thunder have officially announced the hiring of two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Budenholzer as their new head coach. The agreement, finalized late Monday night, marks a major shift for both Budenholzer and the young, up-and-coming Thunder franchise.

Budenholzer, 54, last coached the Milwaukee Bucks, where he led the team to an NBA Championship in 2021. After parting ways with the Bucks following the 2023 season, he spent a year away from the sidelines, reportedly evaluating potential opportunities. Now, he takes over a Thunder squad that surprised the league with a 50-win season and a playoff appearance behind MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rising star Chet Holmgren.

Budenholzer, known for his disciplined systems and player development, will be tasked with maximizing Oklahoma City’s young core while integrating new talent. The Thunder are expected to be major players in free agency and the trade market this offseason, with ample draft capital and cap flexibility.
