Origins of MDMA
MDMA, also known as "ecstasy" or "molly," is a synthetic drug that has gained popularity as a party drug and for its purported therapeutic effects. The origins of MDMA can be traced back to Germany in 1912, where the pharmaceutical company Merck first synthesized the compound. However, it was not until the 1970s that MDMA gained attention as a potential therapeutic drug. Psychologist Alexander Shulgin began experimenting with MDMA and introduced it to psychotherapists who used it in couples counseling and as a tool to facilitate emotional openness and communication.
Despite its early promise as a therapeutic drug, MDMA's popularity as a recreational drug grew rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s. The drug was often used in dance clubs and raves, where it became associated with a culture of hedonism and excess. However, as the dangers of MDMA use became more apparent, it was classified as a Schedule I drug in the United States in 1985, effectively banning its use and research. It had already been banned in 1977 in the UK. In recent years, there has been renewed interest in the therapeutic potential of MDMA, and the drug is currently being studied as a treatment for PTSD and other mental health conditions.
Forms of MDMA
📌 Powder
MDMA powder is a crystalline white powder that can vary in texture and purity. It is often sold in small plastic bags or capsules.
📌 Pills
MDMA is frequently sold in the form of colorful tablets or pills that are stamped with various logos or designs. These pills can vary in color, size, and dosage. Pill form is usually called ecstasy.
📌 Crystals
MDMA crystals, also known as "Molly," are the purest form of MDMA available. They are typically white or off-white and have a crystalline appearance. They can also come in a brown cola-like colour or champagne-coloured.
📌 Liquid
MDMA can also be dissolved in a liquid, typically water, and consumed orally.
Appearance
As described above, appearance can vary depends on what form of MDMA you have. The most common you'll find on the market are pills (ecstasy) which vary in appearance depending on manufacturer. Crystals are also common at street level, usually brown or champagne-coloured and rocky in texture. Powder and liquid are more rare at street level.
Positive Effects
MDMA, is known to produce a range of positive effects, including:
📌 Increased feelings of empathy and closeness to others.
📌 Heightened sensations and a sense of euphoria.
📌 Increased sociability and a desire to communicate with others.
📌 Increased feelings of emotional openness and self-acceptance.
📌 Reduced anxiety and fear.
📌 Reduced symptoms of PTSD and depression when used in a therapeutic setting.
Negative Effects
Potential negative effects can include:
📌 Dehydration and overheating, which can lead to dangerous levels of hyperthermia and even death in some cases.
📌 Increased heart rate and blood pressure, which can lead to cardiovascular problems.
📌 Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
📌 Teeth grinding and jaw clenching, which can cause dental problems and jaw pain.
📌 Insomnia and sleep disturbances.
📌 Anxiety, panic attacks, and paranoia.
📌 Depression and memory impairment with prolonged use.
📌 In rare cases, seizures, coma, and death.
Addiction
Although MDMA doesn't carry the same physically addictive properties of some drugs, it can still lead to psychological dependence. Individuals who use MDMA regularly may begin to experience cravings for the drug and may feel unable to function normally without it. They may also experience withdrawal symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia, when they stop using the drug.

Routes of Administration
Different ROA's include:
📌 Oral ingestion
This is the most common route of administration for MDMA in pill form. The drug is consumed in the form of a pill, tablet, or capsule, and is swallowed.
📌 Intranasal administration
Non-pill form MDMA is usually snorted, which involves crushing the drug into a fine powder and then snorting it through the nose.
📌 Intravenous administration
In rare cases, MDMA may be injected directly into a vein using a syringe.
📌 Rectal administration
Some individuals may choose to administer MDMA rectally using a suppository.
Dosaging

Onset Time and Duration
Taken Orally
Users can expect to "come-up" between 15-30 minutes after ingestion. Onset is from 30-45 minutes and total duration 3-6 hours. Effects are said to peak around 1.5-2.5 hours after ingestion.
Potential Risky Interactions
MDMA can interact negatively with other drugs, especially those which release serotonin. Some risky interactions include:
📌 SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and other antidepressants
These drugs can also affect serotonin levels in the brain and can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition.
📌 MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors)
These drugs can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome when taken with MDMA.
📌 Stimulants
MDMA is itself a stimulant, and combining it with other stimulants such as cocaine or amphetamines can increase the risk of adverse effects such as heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and dehydration.
📌 Alcohol
MDMA can impair judgment and increase the risk of dehydration, so combining it with alcohol can increase the risk of dangerous behaviour, accidents, and other negative effects.
Detection Times
Detection times are subjective and the below are guidelines only. The best way to pass a drug test is to not take drugs.
📌 Saliva
MDMA can be detected by a saliva test for up to 1-2 days after last use.
📌 Urine
A urine screen will typically show MDMA for up to 2-3 days after last use.
📌 Blood
Typically MDMA can be detected in blood for up to 1-2 days after use. Although there have been cases of it lingering for longer.
📌 Hair
The hair screening is always the one you don't want. Traces of MDMA can show for up to 90 days in this case.
Further Safety Tips
We always encourage basic safety precautions and health maintenance before and during drug use, should you decide to use them. Here are some basic tips:
📌 Test your drugs where possible, especially if you're buying from an unknown source.
📌 A lot of people use benzodiazepines or other pharmaceutical sleeping tablets to kill a comedown. We urge extreme caution when doing this (especially if you've had alcohol too) and recommend trying more natural sleep aids such as melatonin to see if they work for you.
📌 Always start with a low dose and work your way up slowly to avoid the risk of adverse effects. The effects of some substances can be unpredictable, and individual sensitivity can vary greatly.
📌 Use in a safe and comfortable environment: Use substances in a safe and comfortable environment, preferably with someone you trust who can assist you if necessary. Avoid crowded or unfamiliar places that could cause anxiety or distress.
📌 Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, but be careful not to drink too much as this can lead to hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood), which can be life-threatening.
📌 Be careful when combining with other drugs. Research what drugs interact with each other an risk adverse effects.
📌 Take breaks between uses. As a general rule limit your use to 1-2 times per week.
📌 Seek medical attention if necessary. Your health is an absolute priority and not worth risk because you fear somebody finding out about your drug use.
📌 We recommend that you take a multi-vitamin the morning after or with food and take liver function tablets the morning of the day of drug use and again the morning after. Drink plenty of water before bed after use. If you take drugs every week then take liver function tablets every day. However, we recommend that if you choose to use drugs, then try to limit use to 1-2 times per week maximum.
