LOUD ‘N’ NASTY “STAND STRONG” Single Review by Iron Mathew
Loud ‘N’ Nasty are a sleaze/glam rock band from Sweden formed in 1998 by Rob Nasty (bass guitar and lead singer) and Chris Loud (guitar). The band released their self titled debut album the same year, followed by ‘I Wanna Live My Life In The Fame’ in 2000. Loud ‘N’ Nasty released their third album ‘Too Much Ain’t Enough’ in 2002, with fourth album ‘Teaser’ a 2004 release.
In 2007, the band had their final show filmed by Swedish TV for a production about the sleaze and glam scene in Sweden to the LA scene during the eighties. Quiet for over a decade, Loud ‘N’ Nasty are back with a brand new single ‘Stand Strong’, released in 2019.
The sleaze/glam rock scene that emerged during the eighties, was forged by the likes of Ratt, Cinderella, Poison, and of course Motley Crue. Heavy hitting party anthems, catchy and infectious, kinda sums up the style of music these bands delivered, and whilst there was a huge hard rock scene in Sweden, Loud ‘N’ Nasty chose the swagger of sleaze as their chosen musical direction.
Prominent throughout the early 2000’s, Loud ‘N’ Nasty have thundered back into the scene after a quiet ten years with a blistering new single, ‘Stand Strong’. Remaining true to their original style, ‘Stand Strong’ is a heavy hitting blast of sleaze swagger, a catchy and anthemic sing a long style romp, reminding their fans that the Loud ‘N’ Nasty story is far from over.
Overall, a bombastic blast of heavy hitting hard rock, melded with the swagger of the eighties/nineties sleaze/glam rock sound.

INTERVIEW WITH LOUD’N’NASTY AND DANGER FRONTMAN ROB NASTY

WHILE MANY RIGHTFULLY EQUATE THE ORIGINS OF SWEDISH SLEAZE ROCK WITH THE NOW LEGENDARY HARDCORE SUPERSTAR AND CRASHDÏET, THERE WAS ONE OTHER SWEDISH BAND THAT FORGED THE WAY STARTING BACK IN THE EARLY ’90S. THAT BAND IS NONE OTHER THAN LOUD’N’NASTY WHO RECENTLY REFORMED AND RELEASED THEIR FIRST SINGLE “STAND STRONG” IN MORE THAN A DECADE. LOUD’N’NASTY BOAST AN ALREADY IMPRESSIVE DISCOGRAPHY WITH THE RELEASE OF ‘LOUD’N’NASTY’ (1998), ‘I WANNA LIVE MY LIFE IN THE FAME’ (2000), ‘TOO MUCH AIN’T ENOUGH’ (2002), ‘ TEASER TEASER ‘ (2004) AND THE EP ‘ NO ONE ROCKS LIKE YOU .’ SLEAZE ROXX CAUGHT UP WITH ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BAND FOUNDERS — FRONTMAN ROB NASTY — TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT LOUD’N’NASTY’S RESURGENCE.
Sleaze Roxx: It’s been over 10 years since Loud ‘N’ Nasty released a new song? What made you and Chris [Loud] decide to get the band together again and release some new material?
Rob Nasty: Well, when we first started, we were kind of sick of the music scene at the time. This was back in the end of the ’90s, and I think it’s pretty much the same thing now. It was a friend of ours that asked me and Chris to play some Loud’N’Nasty songs on a private party in October 2018 so we did. And I don’t know, it felt like the time had stood still since last time we played so we just decided to record one song just for fun to see how it would turn out. I sent the recording to Tom at Perris Records and here we are!

Sleaze Roxx: Why did Loud’N’Nasty disband in the first place?
Rob Nasty: I don’t know. We had played together for a long time and there were so many struggles at that time. I think we kind of lost focus on the things that was fun from the beginning and for me, it came to a point when it just wasn’t fun anymore. And if it ain’t fun, what’s the point ? That’s what I liked now when me and Chris started playing again. We were loud and nasty again.
Sleaze Roxx: After Loud’N’Nasty disbanded, you had another great band called Danger. The self-titled album released back in 2014 actually ended up #4 on the Sleaze Roxx’s Top Ten Albums of 2014 . However, nothing seemed to happen after that record. What happened there?
Rob Nasty: I really like that record and pretty much the same thing with Danger. We made a record that I think was packed with great songs but when you as a artist spend more time promoting and working on everything except making music, it gets tough. You need to get something back. I’m not talking about money but you want your music to be heard.
Sleaze Roxx: I see that you brought your Danger drummer Mackey Gee to Loud’N’Nasty. Why did you end up choosing Mackey Gee to fill the drummer position?
Rob Nasty: Well, he was the cheapest one [laughs]! No, he’s the best. When we played with Danger, we used to have some Loud’N’Nasty songs in the set. So when we talked about drummers, I already knew he was a great drummer and a nice guy to work with. So we asked him to join us for that gig in October last year and after that, we knew we worked out fine as a band.
Sleaze Roxx: Was there any consideration to having [drummers] Snowy Shaw or T-Bone rejoin the band?
Rob Nasty: No, not really. I have not talked to T-Bone in many years and I have no idea what he is up to this days. And Snowy… He’s a singer now, or guitar player? No? Bass [laughs]? I talk with Snowy quite often and I know he got his own things going on and it’s the same thing with Snowy as with animals… They should not be kept in a cage [laughs]! And I like to be kind to animals.
Sleaze Roxx: It’s been said that both Danger and Loud’N’Nasty sound like Ratt. What are your thoughts in that regard?
Rob Nasty: Yes, I hear that quite often and also that my voice is similar to Stephen’s. I don’t know. Sometimes, I just want to do a Ratt n’ Roll tune, another day it can be W.A.S.P. or Crüe or even Alice Cooper. I don’t try to find my own style. I just do my thing based on the stuff I have been listening to since I was a kid. I really don’t care if people would call me a Ratt clone, because next song they would call me a Crüe wannabe or Blackie’s son. Who the fuck cares? I write songs that I like listening to and if some songs end up sounding like Ratt, that’s a good thing, right? Because Ratt rocks!
Sleaze Roxx: The obvious question that I have for you is whether Loud’N’Nasty plan on releasing a new EP or full-length album, and if so, how far along are you?
Rob Nasty: [Laughs] Well, we got some songs that we started on ten years ago and we write new ones too. Honestly, I don’t know if there will be a full album or not. But there will be more music from the Loud’N’Nasty camp.
Sleaze Roxx: I see that Loud’N’Nasty has rekindled its relationship with Perris Records. It must be nice to be able to return with the same record label ten years later.
Rob Nasty: Tom [Mathers] at Perris Records is a great guy and what I love with Tom and Perris Records is that they keep going on and do what they do no matter how the wind blows. And I think that is the same thing with Loud’N’Nasty.
Sleaze Roxx: Will Loud’N’Nasty be playing any more gigs and is there any chance that you’d make it to Canada or the USA?
Rob Nasty: As for now, we will go back in the studio to record a new song or two. Who knows? And then we will take it from there. If the time is right and we feel ready to tour, we will. We would love to play USA and Canada! So, if there are promoters out there who want some Swedish sleaze to blow off the roof with, feel free to contact us or Perris Records .
Sleaze Roxx: One trend that seems to have changed since Loud’N’Nasty disbanded is that there are a lot more festivals involving “sleaze rock” type bands. Has there been any thought to having Loud’N’Nasty play any festivals?
Rob Nasty: There were some festivals even back then who where interested and for now, I don’t know. We just got our single out and have not really put focus on booking shows or festivals. Who knows? Maybe next year?
Sleaze Roxx: How do you think that the rock scene has changed since Loud’N’Nasty first began?
Rob Nasty: I don’t focus too much on the scene to be honest. I do the same shit I did ten years ago so I don’t really care. Some bands try to follow and some bands live on the things they did 10-20 or 30 years ago. I think as long as you do what you think is right, it’s right. there was a ”hair metal / sleaze” scene back then in Sweden but if there is some kind of change, I think it might be more AOR and melodic rock now from Sweden. There’s not much hairspray, switchblades and leather… I kind of miss the danger in rock n’ roll now.
Sleaze Roxx: Has there been any thought on re-releasing the past Loud ‘n’ Nasty records?
Rob Nasty: Yes. It would be fun to have those early ones on vinyl one day.
Sleaze Roxx: What made you decide to release the video for the solo single “Rock N’ Roll Made Me What I Am Today” in 2016 and why wasn’t there anymore solo material released after that?
Rob Nasty: I was just bored of being bored. So I went in the studio and did it on my own. That was a cover of Lita Fords’ “Rock N’ Roll Made Me What I Am Today.” I always loved that song from the first time I heard it. Those lyrics could been out of my pen. And I had alot of fun recording and also making the video for it. I did some more songs that I was supposed to release but then me and Chris started talking and here we are.
Sleaze Roxx: Is there anything that we haven’t covered that you’d like to mention?
Ron Nasty: Well, as an independent artist that we are, we for sure appreciate your support of underground sleaze and rock n’ roll. And thanks to all of you who buy, stream or download our music.
Sleaze Roxx: Last question for you, what are your top three favorite albums of all-time and why?
Rob Nasty: Oh, I got that question many times before and it’s hard to choose three top albums. There are so many which have meant so much to me but in different ways. But here are three. Mötley Crüe’s ‘ Too Fast For Love ‘ — It’s loud n’ nasty and got that punk nerve that turned in to heavy metal. W.A.S.P.’s self-titled debut — I love everything on that album, the music, the lyrics, the image. Perfect. And we talked about Ratt today so last one out for today’s top three will be Ratt’s ‘Invasion of Your Privacy.’ The sound, his voice, and the songs are killers!
