Liberty Edge Out Sky in Thrilling Overtime Showdown

NEW YORK – In a highly anticipated matchup between two of the WNBA’s top contenders, the New York Liberty outlasted the Chicago Sky 98-95 in a heart-stopping overtime battle at Barclays Center on Wednesday night.

The game lived up to its hype as former MVP Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with a dominant 32-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Sabrina Ionescu added 22 points, including a clutch three-pointer in overtime to seal the win.

Chicago’s dynamic duo of Marina Mabrey (28 points) and rookie sensation Cameron Brink (17 points, 9 rebounds) kept the Sky in the game, forcing OT with a last-second layup by Mabrey in regulation. However, New York’s veteran experience proved decisive in the extra period, with Betnijah Laney-Hamilton hitting key free throws to ice the game.

'This was a statement win for us,' said Liberty coach Sandy Brondello. 'Chicago is a tough team, but we showed our resilience when it mattered.'

The Sky (4-3) will look to bounce back against the Sun on Saturday, while the Liberty (6-1) continue their homestand against the Dream.
