Los Angeles Lakers Make Blockbuster Trade to Acquire All-Star Point Guard

Los Angeles, CA — June 10, 2024 — In a stunning move just ahead of the NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers have finalized a trade to acquire three-time All-Star point guard Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks. The deal, confirmed by league sources late Tuesday night, sends guard D’Angelo Russell, forward Rui Hachimura, and two future first-round picks to Atlanta in exchange for the dynamic playmaker.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka praised the move, calling Young a 'perfect fit' alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. 'Trae’s elite scoring and playmaking elevate our roster to championship contention,' Pelinka said in a press release. 'We’re all-in on bringing another title to Los Angeles.'

Young, 25, averaged 25.5 points and 10.8 assists last season and is expected to take over as the Lakers’ primary ball-handler. The trade signals the franchise’s aggressive push to maximize the remaining years of LeBron James’ legendary career.
