Kraken Dominate Kings in Thrilling 5-2 Victory

Seattle, WA – April 8, 2025 – The Seattle Kraken delivered a commanding performance last night at Climate Pledge Arena, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 in a fast-paced, physical matchup.

From the opening faceoff, the Kraken set the tone with aggressive forechecking and sharp puck movement. Forward Jared McCann opened the scoring just 4:12 into the first period with a blistering wrist shot past Kings goaltender Cam Talbot. The Kings responded quickly, with Adrian Kempe tying the game on a power-play deflection, but Seattle regained control before the end of the period when rookie sensation Shane Wright buried a rebound for his 20th goal of the season.

The second period saw the Kraken extend their lead as defenseman Vince Dunn fired a slap shot from the point, making it 3-1. Los Angeles fought back with a breakaway goal by Quinton Byfield, cutting the deficit to one, but Seattle’s depth proved too much to handle.

In the third period, the Kraken sealed the win with two more goals—one from Jordan Eberle on a slick backhand move and an empty-netter from Yanni Gourde. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer was stellar, making 32 saves, including several key stops during a late Kings power play.

'We stuck to our game plan, stayed disciplined, and capitalized on our chances,' said Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol. 'It’s a big win against a tough opponent.'

The Kings, now fighting for a wild-card spot, were left frustrated. 'We didn’t execute when it mattered,' admitted captain Anze Kopitar. 'We’ll have to be better next game.'

With the victory, the Kraken (42-28-8) strengthen their playoff position, while the Kings (38-31-9) will look to rebound in their upcoming homestand.
