Kelly Tilghman officially retired from journalism in 2018, following the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament, ending her 22-year-old stint with the Golf Channel, and her career on the whole. Since then she has focused on golf, and with several others started the Mentor Cup Tournament, while she is also focused on her family life, of which we will talk a bit later.

Kelly Tilghman was born on the 6th August 1969, in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina USA; she is the daughter of Phil Tilghman and Katherine Tilghman, who both ran and managed golf courses.

She spent her childhood in her hometown with her sister Kathryn Hemphill. When it comes to her education, after finished high school, Kelly enrolled at Duke University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. During her time at Duke, Kelly played golf and won several tournaments, including the Furman University’s Lady Paladin Invitational Golf Rivalry.

Before she ventured into sports journalism, Kelly played golf professionally, and competed on the tour between 1992 and 1996.

She participated in tournaments across Australia, Europe, and Asia. During her time as a pro, she also taught younger players and served as a teacher. However, with the creation of the Golf Channel, she decided to forego her career as a professional player, and focus more on giving reports and insights on the beautiful game of golf.

Kelly worked for the Golf Channel from its inception in 1995 until 2018, during which time she became one of the most prominent female golf reporters.

She started as a course reporter and slowly started working her way up at the station. After more than 10 years as a course reporter, during PGA Tour telecasts, and play-by-play announcer, Kelly was promoted to an anchor in 2007. She teamed up with Nick Faldo to form the lead broadcasting team for the majority of PGA Tour telecast.

In 2008, Kelly made comments about Tiger Woods, stating that the young players should lynch Woods in a back alley; this came after her colleague, Nick Faldo’s joke that the young players should gang up on Woods.

Her comment caused controversy, and media covered the incident on a large scale, creating a lynch mob demanding Kelly’s suspension. At first, the network stood behind its employee, but it was in January 2009 that Kelly was be suspended for two weeks. Since then, Kelly has continued her career professionally, and even featured as an announcer of Tiger Woods golf games from 2009 to 2011.

Although she’s retired as a journalist and reporter, Kelly is still in golf and is one of the managers of the golf Mentor Cup tournament, which has also contributed to her wealth.

Tilghman’s net worth is $5 million.

For much of her career, Kelly has hidden details from her love life, which caused a few rumors to appear, including that she is a lesbian and that she is living with her girlfriend.

However, that was untrue. Furthermore, she was also said to be secretly married to Nick Faldo, her colleague from the Golf Channel, which was also untrue. Nevertheless, in recent years she’s been engaged to Rocco Mediate, and the two have a daughter together, named Francesca Rose.

Her official Twitter page has more than 175,000 loyal fans, with whom she’s shared her most recent career endeavors, including the launching of Mentors Cup, among numerous other accomplishments.
