Julie Chrisley Released from Prison: Sentence Overturned on Appeal

Nashville, TN – November 22, 2023 – Julie Chrisley, one-half of the reality TV duo from Chrisley Knows Best, has been released from prison after a federal appeals court overturned her seven-year sentence for bank fraud and tax evasion.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the sentencing calculation used in Julie and her husband Todd Chrisley’s 2022 trial was incorrect, leading to an unjust punishment. While the court upheld their convictions, it ordered a resentencing hearing, resulting in Julie’s immediate release. Todd Chrisley’s 12-year sentence was also reduced, but he remains in prison pending further review.

Julie, 51, was serving her sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Her release comes after a tumultuous legal battle that began in 2019 when the couple was indicted on charges of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans. They were also convicted of tax evasion and attempting to hide income from their reality TV earnings.

Fans of the USA Network show expressed mixed reactions, with some celebrating her release while others criticized the justice system’s handling of white-collar crime. The Chrisleys have maintained their innocence, blaming a rogue employee for the financial discrepancies.

Julie’s attorney, Alex Little, stated, 'We’re thrilled that the court recognized the errors in Julie’s sentencing. She looks forward to reuniting with her family and moving past this difficult chapter.'

With Todd still incarcerated and their show canceled, the future of the Chrisley family remains uncertain. Julie is expected to return to Nashville, where she will likely focus on supporting her children—including daughter Savannah, who has been vocal about her parents’ legal struggles.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will pursue further action. Meanwhile, the case has reignited debates about sentencing disparities in financial crimes.
