Local Hero Josh Johnson Saves Stranded Hikers in Dramatic Mountain Rescue

Denver, CO — In a heart-stopping rescue mission yesterday, 32-year-old outdoorsman and volunteer firefighter Josh Johnson braved treacherous conditions to save three hikers stranded on Mount Evans.

The hikers, a family from Boulder, had set out for a day hike but lost their way after heavy fog rolled in. With temperatures dropping and no cell service, they took shelter near a cliff edge, fearing the worst.

That’s when Johnson, an experienced mountaineer who happened to be training nearby, spotted their faint distress signals. Armed with only a rope, a first-aid kit, and sheer determination, he scaled icy terrain to reach them.

'I just knew I had to get to them before nightfall,' Johnson told reporters afterward. 'The wind was brutal, but hearing those kids calling for help kept me going.'

After securing the family, Johnson guided them to safety, where paramedics treated them for mild hypothermia. Authorities praised his quick thinking, calling him a 'true hero.'

The rescued hikers, emotional but unharmed, thanked Johnson repeatedly. 'We wouldn’t be here without him,' said father Mark Reynolds. 'He’s an angel in a flannel shirt.'

Johnson, ever humble, shrugged off the praise. 'Just doing what anyone would do,' he said before heading home—likely to plan his next adventure.
