Guide: Updating Pixel Experience

Guide: Updating Pixel Experience

xLexip

METHOD 1 - AUTOMATED OTA UPDATE (recommended)

You can find the System Updater at Settings > System > System Update in all stable and beta releases. Make sure your TWRP recovery is not too outdated.

If your updater crashes while downloading or installing, clear the app data of the "system update" app and try again.

METHOD 2 - MANUAL UPDATE

CAUTION
You can only use this guide when you already are using Pixel Experience. Otherwise you need to use the installation guide. Mind this:
You can not use this guide in the following scenarios:

  • When you initially install Pixel Experience and you come from another ROM or OxygenOS.
  • When you want to update from PE11 to PE12.
  • When you want to downgrade from PE12 to PE11.
  • When you want to update from the PE12 Alpha from October 2021.

These situations require a clean flash instead.

STEP 1
Download the latest package for your device. The "Plus Edition" is highly recommended if available. If you want to have root access, you need to download the Magisk.zip as well. Also make sure that your TWRP Recovery is uptodate.

STEP 2
Reboot to recovery, choose advanced and ADB sideload. Use your computer to sideload the package(s).

Please note that the custom recoveries cannot decrypt Android 12 storage yet (as per the known issues). Alternatively, you could use an USB drive.

There you go, have fun with Pixel Experience! :]
