This is really two sites next to each other. The archives are located in the old jail, where you can learn about how prisoners were incarcerated, as well as the two executions that took place in St. Rumor has it that one of the executed prisoners still haunts the old jail! The majestic building next door, meanwhile, contains the old courthouse that only closed in , which at the time made it the oldest serving courthouse in Canada. Covid 19 shutdowns have been difficult on all of us, but none more than facilities that rely on lots of visitors to keep going. For most tourist attractions in the area, shutting down and laying off all staff was the most cost effective option. This however is not possible if you are trying to keep a variety of marine creatures alive in your facility. There were definitely layoffs, but also surely financial losses taken to keep the animals alive. So with this in mind, the Huntsman is likely functioning on less staff than normal, and with some time to go before they recover from Covid losses. So, with that in mind: I really enjoyed my visit to the aquarium, it's small, but packs a lot of information and opportunities to see the animals into that small space. Great day on the water! We were fortunate to have a glorious day in October. The boat ride and info provided by the biologists on board was worth the price of admission. We did see minke whales, seals, a tuna, and bald eagles. The captain did a great job of maneuvering for optimal viewing. And we got to spend some time with the Old Sow and her piglets! A great late season whale watching trip, with highlights including several minkie whales, porpoises, seals and bald eagles! Everything was super well organised from the booking, through to the check in and donning of immersion suits, and throughout the trip itself. The boat captain was knowledgeable and quickly took us to where the whales were. We were lucky also to go out on a beautiful, still morning, so the sea was calm. Highly recommended! Morning trip on the tall ship was a 'Trifecta' as we saw 3 species of whale. Minke, Finback and Humpback! Also saw some Porpoise and the pair rode the waves right beside our boat. The crew was incredibly laid back and informative. The captain was quick, aware and knew where to go! Success rate for seeing wildlife is very high on the Bay. Loved it!! This is a gem. This was an excellent way to spend a lovely afternoon. The buildings are lovely,nice architecture. The history is interesting and the docents are quite good. Bring a lunch, watch the tide times and have a wonderful day. Definitely recommend booking online prior to going over, saves a long of time for you and everyone behind you. What a tantalizing and curiosity quenching time we had on our anniversary on tour with Genny from Turtle Shore Adventures at the wheel of her Jeep.
