Ilha grande tour I was extremely disappointed to see how disorganised and environmental-UNfriendly this tour was. DO NOT waste your time and money on the Ilha Grande tour in Brazil, during which they will take you around the island to stop at a few beaches and snorkelling areas FULL of visitors with cans of beer at hand and throwing the last bit of their cigarettes in the ocean. No comments made at all by the staff. You will sail on a boat with extremely loud commercial music all the way, and stop to eat on a small beach with its own little mountain of plastic and garbage flying everywhere and in the ocean. The bus arrived late in the morning and dropped us off at 9. Over all, we spent more time on the bus than out there sailing. This is really sad for the environment, especially Brazil which has such a wonderful biodiversity and open, wild spaces that people are slowly killing. I am fully aware that this is also an issue of behaviour and selfishness from tourists themselves, but touring companies have a responsibility in all of this as well to educate people about the environment they are taking them to, and make sure that basic requirements to respect nature are in place. Horrible experience. Terrible trip. The description did not mention that this was pretty much a party boat. Very loud and crowded. Bare minimal English spoken by the guides. Was not meant for snorkeling. No fish and no spot to snorkel, just swim. It was a full big bus of people not a a private tour. The guide did speak at length in Spanish seriously for 20 minutes non stop at at time and 2 sentences in English afterwords. The explanations and guidance were minimal in English. The beaches were not just overcrowded but people were almost on top of each other. Forget about swimming. The boat cannot dock at the beaches so it stays away from the shore and a small motorized boat takes you to the shore for 30 minutes after 3 hours of bus travel to two different beaches each time. By the time you disembark, find some place to stand in the water and come back to board the boat, you have realistically 15 minutes in the water which you do not enjoy. You stand in the water because it is just too many people. The time to enjoy pretty water and beach is minimal. But time to travel to the place depends on traffic hours one way and makes it almost not worth it at all given what is offered at Arraial. Also note that by the end of the tour when you are coming back to the dock to board the bus back, the waters get really rough. If you are only going there to see the nature and put a check mark on your list, do it. Otherwise, it is really not worth it the way it is organized at this time.
