Authorities say there is no indication that any of the students had photos taken of them in an unsuspecting way. Police say some photos are real, while others appear to be fake.
Duxbury Police Chief Matthew Clancy says many of the photos appear to be selfies.
"At the end of the day, these are children and they've made a mistake," he said at a news conference on Friday.
Dropbox has been contacted by police and served a search warrant for further forensic testing. Clancy was the West Coast company has been cooperative during the investigation.
"Essentially, our goal is to go after the source, the individual (who) created this site," Clancy said.
School officials say it's been an embarrassing and sensitive lesson for students.
"We would hope that our young girls understand that there are other ways to be popular," said Duxbury Schools Superintendent Dr. Ben Tantillo during the conference.
Tantillo added, "We want our kids to be safe, (and) we want our boys to know that this is not an appropriate way to treat women."
Clancy says he has no plans of levying criminal charges in the case. He wants the matter to be more of a life lesson for students, and educational forums are already in the works at the school.
WBZ-TV's Nicole Jacobs and Bill Shields contributed to this report.

More stories to check out before you go
Stories of warriors, wizards and monsters tend to be thought of as kids' stuff - but this isn't always the case. The deluge of sword and sorcery movies which popped up in the early 1980s are often jaw-dropping for the level of sex and violence on show, and the Roger Corman-produced Deathstalker is a fine example of this.
For evidence, we need look no further than Lana Clarkson's character Kiara. Initially presented as a mysterious cloaked swordsman who invades the titular warrior Deathstalker's camp, it is very quickly revealed she is in fact a woman - thanks to the fact that wears nothing under that cloak but a thong. And, while occasionally she dons pasties for modesty, that's the same look she boasts the whole movie.
Clarkson became quite the icon of 80s sword and sorcery, taking the lead in the similarly clothes-light Barbarian Queen and its sequel. Her story met a tragic end when she was shot dead by music producer Phil Spector in 2003.

Ben Bussey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
