Local Hero Shavon Revel Saves Family from House Fire

Springfield, IL – May 15, 2025 – In an act of extraordinary bravery, 28-year-old Shavon Revel risked her life to save a family from a burning home early this morning.

According to Springfield Fire Department reports, the fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. at a two-story residence on Elm Street. Revel, a neighbor who was returning home from her overnight shift as a nurse, noticed thick smoke pouring from the windows and immediately sprang into action.

'I heard screams inside, and I didn’t even think—I just ran in,' Revel recounted. Despite the intense heat and smoke, she helped an elderly woman, her daughter, and two young grandchildren escape safely before firefighters arrived.

Fire Chief Daniel O’Connor praised Revel’s quick thinking. 'Without her intervention, this could have been a tragic loss of life. She’s a true hero.'

The family, though shaken, suffered only minor smoke inhalation and are expected to recover. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Revel, humble about her actions, said, 'I just did what anyone would do. I’m just glad they’re okay.'

Local officials are considering honoring Revel with a civic award for her bravery.
