High School Star Knight Leads State Championship

Local High School Star Demetrius Knight Jr. Leads Team to State Championship Victory

Atlanta, GA — May 15, 2025 — In a thrilling overtime finish, Westlake High School’s football team secured their first state championship in a decade, thanks to a standout performance by junior quarterback Demetrius Knight Jr. The 17-year-old phenom threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning 12-yard scramble in OT, sealing a 34-28 victory over rival Buford High.

Knight, a dual-threat QB already drawing comparisons to former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, has been turning heads all season with his electrifying speed and pinpoint accuracy. His clutch plays in the final minutes of regulation—including a 45-yard Hail Mary to tie the game—cemented his reputation as one of Georgia’s top high school athletes.

'Demetrius is special,' said Westlake head coach Marcus Carter. 'His leadership, work ethic, and raw talent make him a once-in-a-generation player. Colleges are already lining up for him.'

Indeed, Knight has received scholarship offers from over 15 Division I programs, including Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson. Though he remains uncommitted, scouts predict he could be a five-star recruit by next season.

Off the field, Knight maintains a 3.8 GPA and volunteers with youth football camps in his community. 'I just want to inspire the next kid to chase their dreams,' he said post-game, holding the championship trophy amid roaring cheers.

With one more year of high school left, all eyes are on Knight as he prepares for what could be a historic senior season.
