Hayden Christensen Returns to Star Wars Universe in New Disney Series

Los Angeles, April 26, 2025 – Hayden Christensen, the actor best known for his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, is set to reprise his iconic role in an upcoming Disney series, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

The announcement was made during today’s Star Wars Celebration event, where Christensen appeared alongside franchise producer Dave Filoni to reveal new details about the highly anticipated project. The series, set between Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV – A New Hope, will explore the early years of Darth Vader’s reign as the Emperor’s enforcer.

Fans erupted in applause as Christensen took the stage, expressing his gratitude for the continued support from the Star Wars community. 'Returning to this character has been an incredible journey,' he said. 'There’s so much more to explore with Vader, and I’m excited to bring new layers to his story.'

Christensen first played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). After stepping away from the franchise for years, he made a surprise return in Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) and Ahsoka (2023), reigniting fan enthusiasm for his portrayal of the fallen Jedi.

Shadows of the Empire is expected to begin filming later this year, with a tentative release date in late 2026. The series will also feature new characters and familiar faces from the Star Wars lore, though further casting details remain under wraps.

With Christensen back in the iconic black armor, Star Wars fans can look forward to a deeper dive into one of cinema’s most tragic villains. As the actor himself put it: 'The dark side still has stories to tell.'
