As a mad keen snowboarder, skiier and mountain biker I have spent many holidays in many parts of the world chasing the ultimate snow holiday. But lets face it the best snow holiday is one where the powder is the best quality, is reliable and it doesnt break the bank to get there. Thus allowing you to plan your trip and know that you will get that precious powder fix, and as we Aussies know that can be a rare thing. I have been coming to Japan now for years as I cannot find better snow, variety of terrain, better restaurants and apre anywhere in the world. Our lodge is only recently purchased and we are making ongoing improvements over the next few seasons, so she is not 5 star yet but deftinately 4 star … But, what it does offer is one of the best locations in the valley and a level of spatiousness not usually found in Japan. Only m from the lifts and surrounded by beautiful forest, in addition to being situated on the main shuttle route makes access to the whole valley a breeze. Our previous guests can attest to the unrivalled hospitality and immersive experience we provide. We stayed 10 days at Powder tracks. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids aged 10 and under. It was a m walk to the slopes and less to coffee shops, burger bar and donut shop! There was heaps of space outside the lodge for the kids to build snowmen and they even made their own toboggan track at the rear. The view from the side of the lodge was beautiful to wake up to each morning. Sam was full of great advice and local knowledge and he helped organise anything we needed and helped with transfers to the bus station when we had to leave. Beautiful lodge, perfects for families and just a short walk from the Hakuba Goryu lifts. We stayed downstairs in the bunker so we were able to enjoy an apartment set up. Staff was super helpful, shuttling us whenever possible, recommended great places to eat, drink and rent ski gear, and basically will just work hard to accomodate you, no matter the needs. We came in a couple and loved it but with the variety of rooms I could see this being perfect for a group of friends or family. I could not recommend them enough! Powder Tracks Family Lodge is a great place to stay. This was my second time in Hakuba and the third place I have stayed, and without a doubt I'll be trying to stay there again next time I go. Not only is the place massive with plenty of relax and dining area with full western couches and dining table , but it is also at the footstep of Goryu 3 min walk with boarding gear. Not that the walk really matters, because the place comes with a Van that you can use free of charge to go anywhere you please. Only downfall was that the living area was a bit cold at times. But saying that, if you wore jeans and a jumper rather than shorts and a shirt you would be ok. I would highly recommend this place to everyone The lodge was spacious and comfortable with plenty of room to relax after a day out on the slopes. The onsite manager Sam was very helpful and generous with his time, also providing great knowledge of the area. The van proved to be very useful for accessing the supermarket, restaurants and other ski resorts in the valley. Cant recommend Powder Tracks family lodge enough. Powder Tracks Family Lodge and apartment is nestled in the breathtaking Goryu forest in one of the best locations in Hakuba Goryu. It is also located on the main shuttle route for the Hakuba valley so access to all the other resorts is simple and easy. Run by a lovely Aussie family the lodge was great And even better was that the owner, Geoff, agreed to show me around the next day, along with Huw and Bryn, an Aussie father and son. With another 25cm of fresh overnight on top of the metre the night before the excitement levels were high! After a couple of warm up laps we met up with another Aussie lodge manager, Tom, and toured up above the top lift. It would have looked like this if we could see! Avi risk was 4 so time to dig a pit and check the stability Felt pretty solid and sun popped out so skis on and time to ski! And it was blower! The Onsen was fantastic As was dinner at the Shiro! Waiting for the lift to open After a couple of laps decided to hike up for steeper terrain. This will be interesting! Do not fall over in this snow! Made it up about m of altitude in 30 mins and that was enough! Enough to open up a path into the steeper forest, which I lapped for the rest of the day. Never experienced face shots like it! Back to Tokyo and a long day to get work done before the public holiday on Tuesday. Had booked a couple of days off and another IG post suggested Hakuba might be on. Just made it to the last Shinkansen to Nagano and frantically searched for accommodation finding a cancellation at the Hakuba Lodge. Even the Swiss would be impressed by this order! Cleaning crews at the ready! After changing at the now familiar Olympic city of Nagano, got the bus this time to Happo One, one stop after Hakuba. Scene of the FWT first stop. Hakuba House is another cracking Aussie run lodge. Simple but super friendly and again the owner Grant and his crew agreed to show me a few of their favourite spots on Tuesday It sure was busy at the lift station! Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do. Wow, impressive!!! You'll need to Register first of course. These left me with big smiles. And people are so lovely. Then you can post your own questions or snow reports With a Southern front on its way bringing soaring temps and rain forecast that evening the boys decided to have a crack at Mount Karamatsu, basically a m vertical ascent from the top lift. Or just hop across like Grant Loved every minute. After all it is free. You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net. Saw 3 westerners all week : think it is slightly more cosmopolitan now. Literally didn't stop snowing for 5 days. Though just being in Japan itself was an adventure. Seki Onsen was a super cool spot. I skied at Lotte Arai on a deep day last year, which was fantastic. Definitely recommended if you return to the Myoko area. Madarao has great potential too but I've not managed to hit it on a powder day yet. We really only had one deep face-shots galore day last week and then some other well above average for Europe days. KenX , had a day that he'll never forget, climbing Yotei and then skiing into the crater. As ever Japan delivers not just in terms of snow but in the whole experience. Myoko was in poor shape before the 2m of snow arriving in 2 days. It is such a gamble. Living in CH its very difficult to justify a non work related trip. BobinCH , spotted that , shame they've let you down , its got me a bit worried as using them on a trip to Svalbard later this year and not much chance of fix if they break up there , will give some proper workouts before them to make sure , but defo looked like you sorted any backseating issues with those nice shims , hope you can get them warranted and sorted. Dabber , mine were almost impossible to lock so must have had some fault which then resulted in the right one freezing and ne breaking the lever putting too much force on it.
