'Game of Thrones' Prequel 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Begins Filming in 2024

Los Angeles, March 26, 2025 — HBO has officially announced that production has begun on its highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. The new show, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, will explore the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, set nearly a century before the events of the original series.

A Return to Westeros

Fans of the franchise have eagerly awaited new content since House of the Dragon concluded its second season last year. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a lighter, more adventurous tone compared to the political intrigue and brutal warfare of its predecessors.

HBO has confirmed that Peter Claffey (Vikings: Valhalla) will star as the towering knight Ser Duncan, while newcomer Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) will play the future King Aegon V Targaryen, nicknamed 'Egg.'

What to Expect

The series will follow Dunk and Egg as they travel across Westeros, encountering familiar noble houses and new challenges. George R.R. Martin, who serves as an executive producer, has hinted at possible crossovers with House of the Dragon, given the Targaryen connection.

HBO has not yet announced a release date, but industry insiders speculate a late 2025 or early 2026 premiere.
