I have a script that has been running to remove user files if a user has not logged in for 20 days or more.
The script has been running fine until the new year.
I think my issue is my calculation if understanding that 01/09/2023 7:00am is not 20 days less than 12/31/2022 7:00am
For example, I get the following when I run it"
Name       Stamp    ----       -----    xxxxxx 01/02/2023 07:43 calc - 20 days Tuesday, December 20, 2022 4:19:50 PM
This was tagged to remove as I think my math thinks Jan 06 is less than Dec 20
Why are you comparing strings and not datetime values??
Thank you… I was looking for some help to correct my script and maybe learn something. Maybe someone has helpful suggestions rather than just pointing out that I did it wrong. If I had it right why would I be asking for help.
I'd use the "LastLogonDate" property instead. It's already converted to a date/time object for you and it's replicated between domain controllers. There can be some pretty high delay in replication in larger environments but small ones it should be fine. We have a pretty large environment but we turned on immediate replication (so any change to AD will immediately replicated everywhere) so we use the LastLogonDate. Or you can write a script to hit each domain controller and see which one has the latest date.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a few years since I've looked at it, but I don't believe lastLogonTimestamp is replicated at all so the last logon time you get may not even be accurate.

The way I posted it , it should work, what you are comparing are both datetime.
Compare what I posted and what you posted (mainly I did not make it a string.
lastlogon - LOCAL value on DC , NOT Replicated

lastLogonTimestamp - same as

Lastlogondate but not in friendly datetime format
Lastlogondate - replicated but up to 14 days off (based off

lastlogontimestamp)
Neally  I did not notice that change, thanks I will check that out too.
If you're purging accounts older than say 30-90 days the LastLogonDate would suffice. I would also recommend using the Date property like so:
Basically, .Date is midnight of the same day so hours/minutes/seconds/milliseconds aren't a part of the calculation. If someone last logs in 20 days ago at 9:00 am and your script runs at 8:00 am they'll need to have not logged in for 21 days before getting disabled. That may be ok, or it may not.
You also have the option of querying each DC and getting the latest value for your comparison vs. relying on possibly old information.
