The Footing Tube is a concrete form to be used as a casting product for concrete piers and footings, or to support decks, cottages and additions. The tapered form is designed as a one-product system to eliminate frost from lifting concrete piers. The Footing Tube is easily installed by a professional or amateur and the scribe lines on the tube indicate the required backfill height, cutting height and the level of concrete required to fill the tube. The safety top resists the entry of water and dirt during backfilling. CCMC approved (CCMC 13309-R) when used as directed and complies with the National Building Code of Canada (NBC).

Ideal as a casting form for concrete piers, or to support decks, porches, one-storey cottages and additions, lamp-posts, pole barns, point-load beams and fence posts.

November 14, 2000 The following letter provides geotechnical recommendations and comments pertaining to the Footing Tube. The recommendations and comments herein are based on the National Building code of Canada (1995), the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual (1992) and accepted geotechnical practice. The base area of the Footing Tube as measured by the undersigned is 3.11 square feet including the flanged edge and 2.58 square excluding the flanged edge. Assuming the soil has an acceptable allowable bearing pressure, the base of the Footing Tube has a satisfactory soil/structure contact area to withstand typical residential loading. The total height of the Footing Tube is 5 feet. This height provides acceptable ground penetration to withstand frost penetration below the footing in most seasonal frost areas in Canada.
The tapered sides of the Footing Tube give it its resistance to the uplift forces of frost. It is the opinion of the undersigned that the angle of taper and the material of the Footing Tube are sufficient to withstand such uplift forces.
The ultra high strength polyethylene used to construct the Footing Tube appears to be durable and sufficient to withstand forces applied by typical installation.
The principal design advantage of the Footing Tube is its resistance to uplift from frost. It is the opinion of the undersigned, that if properly installed, the Footing Tube will provide superior protection from frost driven uplift than that provided by typical cylindrical formwork.
Sincerely,
Quality Engineered Solutions Ltd.

Important Steps To Follow

Step 1     Excavate to depth required that will eliminate frost from going under pier.
Local building officials will be able to provide frost depth information.
Step 2     Install The Footing Tube in desired location. (Center and Level on Safety Top)
Center marking is provided on Safety Top for easier location. Set level on top and move bottom of tube to desired location.  When position is determined, place some dirt around base to hold it in the desired location. Compact with foot while holding tube level.
Check location of pier again and backfill with machine or shovel by placing material equally around tube.  Backfill to grade required for frost protection or the minimum requirement of 36″ before filling with concrete so tube does not float up with concrete pressure.  Note that large rocks should be kept away from side of tube.
Do not remove top until you are ready to pour your concrete so nothing will fall into open pier form. Determine the required height of the concrete pier and remove Safety Top using scribe lines with knife or saw at this location. Pour concrete and set anchor means that are required.
Step 1B   Adjust Footing Tube and make level on FTB30.
*Footing Tube can be secured to the FTB30 with screws to stabilize.
