So apparently I look like a pretty serious druggie. The first inference came in Marrakech when a young fella asked me if I was looking for some cocaine. He then suggested hashish instead and I realised my error. Saved by the wife. After we returned from the desert we met up with friends Hamish and Bridie see their own travelblog here and headed for the coast and it was here I really started to question life. Despite there being four of us now, all the dealers were approaching me and often in sight of each other, because clearly I looked like I needed drugs so I must have made a mistake. I blame Hamish for being so clean-cut and innocent-looking. It must have been the Spanish haircut he had, or maybe three years in politics had left me looking brain dead. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I still had my long blonde locks of uni days. But anyway, getting to hang out with Hamo and Bridie in Essaouira was great. We had the best meal of our Moroccan travels there. Inside the old city is a fish market where the locals eat and we selected our fish silver bream, tuna and squid , handed them off to the knife man and then sat down to have them basted with herbs and spices and cooked in front of us. Essaouira is quite small and very relaxed, so we basically just chilled out on the beach, wandered around, watched some Spanish football with the locals and ate. My kind of place. Next stop was up the coast at El Jadida, where there is a very cool Portugese city and cistern underneath. Bec even managed to buy her own birthday present there a bag apparently made from camel leather, which I believe to be true as it smells like camel from a really nice guy who invited us back for tea the next morning.
