The Patriots (8-1) will travel to play the Eagles (5-4) for the first time since Super Bowl 52 in Sunday's marquee Week 11 NFL matchup (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS).
New England will try to avenge a 41-33 loss in that final game following the 2017 season, but more important, it needs a win to better position itself for another AFC championship run in '19. Philadelphia, also coming off a bye, also could use a victory as it chases an NFC playoff berth.
The Patriots suffered their first loss of the season against the Ravens in Week 9, while the Eagles beat the Bears to get back above. 500.
Here's everything to know about betting on Patriots vs. Eagles , including updated odds, trends and our expert's prediction for the Week 11 matchup.
The Patriots and Eagles are both pretty healthy going in so the line has stayed rather steady, with some sportsbooks having this as Philadelphia +4.
The Eagles lead the series 8-6, including Super Bowl 52. The Eagles have a two-game winning streak in the rare rivalry. Before that, the Patriots had won four straight.
— 65 percent of spread bettors are with the Patriots to take care of their small number. But 53 percent of moneyline bettors are with the Eagles straight up.
— 61 percent of bettors like the game to go over the point total with quarterbacks as good as Tom Brady and Carson Wentz on the field.
— The Patriots had won and covered in four consecutive games while doing neither against the Ravens. The Eagles have failed to cover in all four of their losses.
DeSean Jackson is out for the season and Alshon Jeffery will be missing this game. That means you can expect the Eagles to try to help Wentz with frequent two-tight end sets featuring Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. Ertz will probably draw the Patriots' primary coverage attention now, but the presence of Goedert can make it tricky as he's also athletic enough to create mismatches. This development also should prompt the Eagles to be dedicated more to the running game, which has had good success of late, but with more Miles Sanders and no Jordan Howard.
The Eagles have played light-out run defense at home this season and they are No. 4 overall in that category. They have been vulnerable at cornerback, but they are now back healthy there. The key for Brady is getting the ball out quickly and spreading it around on short-to-intermediate routes, which he does better than any other QB. The Eagles will try to counter with Jim Schwartz blitzing, and of late Brady has struggled with that kind of pressure.
Doug Pederson out-coached Bill Belichick in Super Bowl 52 with aggressive and creative play-calling, down to the famous "Philly Special" play between Trey Burton and Nick Foles that created the touchdown cushion in the end. Burton and Foles are long gone, but there are plenty of Eagles familiar with the Patriots, and vice versa. It should be fun to see how the coaches push buttons against each other to try to stay one step ahead.
The Patriots have allowed only 3 passing touchdowns all season and have recorded 19 interceptions. They also have 32 sacks as part of the No. 2 pass defense in the NFL. With limited reliable weapons from Philadelphia, the depth of New England's secondary and pass rush can play a big factor.
The Eagles will come out running and play well at home with a good dose of ball control. Pederson's short history vs. Belichick help keeps Philadelphia in the game for four quarters, as well as the hostile environment created by Eagles fans. But in the end, Brady can pick apart the Eagles on the back end and in crunch time, he'll go vintage and deliver the game-winning field-goal drive.

t's game day for those of us degenerates who love betting on the randomness of preseason football. I
And while we can't predict how either side will approach their second dress rehearsal, we can at least come up with a few reasons to justify some action on New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
PointsBet is our Official Sports Betting Partner and we may receive compensation if you place a bet on PointsBet for the first time after clicking our links.
New England -1 (-110) at Philadelphia +1 (-110)
New England -120, Philadelphia +100
New England opened as a -2.5 favorite with a moneyline at -135. But the market has shifted towards Philadelphia.
Normally with a 1-point line, it's tempting to just jump on the moneyline and buy that extra point with the notion that the game almost certainly won't end in a tie. However, this is preseason football, and there's no overtime in preseason football anymore which allows for a better chance at a tie -- especially when neither team cares that much about winning.
As for picking a side, the common sentiment out of joint practices gave the edge to the Eagles. Jalen Hurts was said to be the most impressive quarterback on the field, but to be fair, the Patriots also were without their starting tight ends.
Still, it feels like the Eagles are healthier and playing better than a team that has a regular season win total of 6.5. (The Patriots are O/U 9.5 wins .) But there have been rumblings that Philly's starters won't see much time in this game.
On the other hand, you have a legitimate quarterback competition unfolding for New England with Cam Newton and Mac Jones both jockeying for the Week 1 starting spot. One would imagine that they'll combine for a heavy majority of the reps. However, they're still lacking weapons: The only tight end to practice Tuesday was Devin Asiasi.

In conclusion, I lean towards Philadelphia but this is too much of a crap-shoot.
The Eagles fell to the Steelers 24-16 in their first preseason game for a total of 40 points, which went OVER the 36. But Philadelphia only scored 16 points and all of those came in the first half. The Patriots' preseason opener narrowly survived the under (37 total) with their 22-13 win over Washington.
New England only added a 91-yard touchdown in the final two minutes after Ron Rivera inexplicably used his timeouts to stop the clock when Bill Belichick was content with letting Brian Hoyer take a knee and run out the clock.
The total opened at 38.5 so the market has already favored the under. But it feels like neither team will be fighting tooth and nail in the fourth quarter. Considering that the Patriots defense is expected to be the team's strength and that the offense is dealing with injuries at the tight end position (lots of running = running clock), I like the under.
Note: While we're dealing with a bunch of rain in Boston, the forecast in Philadelphia calls for temperatures in the mid-80's with partly cloudy skies and a slight breeze. So, no, weather shouldn't be a factor.
Our friends at PointsBet have odds for whether or not Mac Jones will take the first snap in the regular season opener. The rookie is +250 to take the first snap and -334 if Newton is under center.
For those who are Jones believers, consider that +250 now before we see something tonight that indicates he's closer to taking over that role.

Bill Belichick has nothing left to prove, but new Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni can make a good first impression with an impressive preseason. Our Patriots vs. Eagles picks and predictions dives into how that will impact NFL betting on Thursday.
The second week of NFL preseason betting rolls out with the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the New England Patriots on Thursday.
These teams are familiar with each other after holding joint practices this week, allowing Eagles rookie head coach Nick Sirianni to not only study his latest exhibition opponent but learn from a master in Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
The 1.5-point spread is one of the shortest lines on the Week 2 preseason board, with New England coming off a Week 1 win and Philadelphia falling in its exhibition opener. Here are our free NFL picks and predictions for Patriots vs. Eagles.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick played Under the Week 2 preseason total in 2019 but had gone Over the number in New England’s second preseason contest in nine straight years going back to 2010. Since 2007, the Patriots are 11-2 O/U in Week 2 of the preseason. Find more NFL betting trends for Patriots vs. Eagles.
The Eagles may have lost their 2021 preseason debut to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they looked good in the opening half when first- and second-teamers took the field, holding a 16-7 lead before getting blanked 17-0 in the final 30 minutes.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts was solid in limited work, going 5 for 7 with 54 passing yards, and those two incompletions came on drops. He’ll get added snaps in Week 2 of the preseason, with Philadelphia working in a brand-new system under Sirianni and coordinator Shane Steichen.
Hurts only ran once in Week 1 versus Pittsburgh but can make something from nothing when plays break down, and those mobile QBs are worth their weight during the preseason when timing and chemistry are hard to come by.
Backing up Hurts is the immortal Joe Flacco, who was 10 for 17 for 178 yards and a touchdown versus the Steelers, and third-stringer Nick Mullens, who’s battling the veteran for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
New England posted a victory over Washington in its preseason opener, edging the Football Team (or soon-to-be Red Hogs, we can only hope) 22-13 thanks to a 16-6 surge in the second half.
Cam Newton played two series under center for the Pats before giving the keys to rookie QB Mac Jones, who went 13 for 19 with 87 yards and played 33 snaps well into the third quarter. Journeyman backup Brian Hoyer came in for mop-up duty in the final frame.
Belichick is usually drum-tight about his preseason plans, but bettors should expect a similar division in work on Thursday. New England really wants to get Jones as much game action as possible in preparation for his likely stab at the starting job at some point in the regular season.
New England is 29-32-4 ATS under Belichick in exhibition play and the Hoodie will take a long look at his defensive depth in Week 2’s matchup, with so many new faces in the stop unit. While preseason results mean little to an established head coach like Belichick, they can go a long way in winning over the front office, locker room, and fans for rookies like Sirianni.
We’ll grab the points with the home side Thursday, knowing Sirianni is motivated, and the starters will build on an impressive showing in Week 1.
PREDICTION: Philadelphia +1.5 (-110)
This total opened at 37 points and has climbed to 38.5, with bettors banking on more offense as first-teamers stretch their legs in the second tune-up tilt of the summer.
This movement could also be a knee-jerk reaction to the low-scoring results from Week 1 of the preseason – a collective 3-13 Over/Under count – with those early bettors bracing for a regression to the Over.
Both teams have capable No. 1 and No. 2 quarterback options, which is better than most preseason setups. With the NFLX schedule compressed to just three games in 2021, the Week 2 matchups take on more of a dress rehearsal role and we’ll see extended action from those top QBs and first-team skill players, including the running backs.
The Patriots rumbled for 127 yards on the ground on 25 carries versus the WFT defense while the Eagles, who just cut RB Kerryon Johnson, only handed off 11 times and sat RB1 Miles Sanders. Sanders’ workload for Week 2 of the preseason is up in the air, according to Sirianni, but Philly still has Jordan Howard, Kenneth Gainwell, and Boston Scott in the backfield.
