TARDIS lands with a familiar wheezing groan.

The Doctor (adjusting his bowtie): 'Right then, Clara—welcome to the most haunted village in the universe! Or at least, that’s what the locals say. Bit of an exaggeration, probably. Maybe. Hopefully.'

Clara (raising an eyebrow): 'Haunted? You brought me to a ghost town?'

The Doctor (grinning): 'Not ghosts—echoes. Time echoes. And they’re centered around that.' He points to an ancient stone well in the village square.

The villagers huddle nervously, whispering about voices from the well—pleas for help, cries in the dark. But no one who goes down ever comes back up.

Old Woman (grabbing the Doctor’s sleeve): 'It’s the Crying! Every night, just before midnight—you’ll hear it!'

The Doctor (serious now): 'Oh, that’s not crying. That’s a distress signal.'

At midnight, the well hums with energy. A voice echoes up—not a ghost, but a transmission.

Voice from the Well: 'Prisoners… trapped… time loop… help us…'

Clara (eyes wide): 'That’s not a ghost—it’s a time fracture!'

The Doctor (snapping fingers): 'Exactly! Someone’s stuck in a repeating moment, screaming across time. And we’re going down.'

They descend into the well, but instead of water, they fall through a time rift—landing in a crumbling alien prison, frozen in the last second before its destruction. Dozens of terrified prisoners are locked in cells, unaware they’re already dead, their final moments repeating endlessly.

Alien Prisoner: 'You have to get us out!'

The Doctor (grim): 'I can’t. This moment’s already happened. But I can stop the loop.'

He rushes to the control panel, rewiring the prison’s temporal core. The walls shake—the loop is breaking.

Clara: 'What happens to them?'

The Doctor (softly): 'They get to rest.'

The prisoners fade, finally released from their eternal moment. The well falls silent.

Back in the village, the Doctor and Clara watch as dawn breaks.

Clara: 'So… no ghosts?'

The Doctor: 'Just time, being cruel. But we fixed that.'

He grins, and the TARDIS doors swing open.

The Doctor: 'Next stop—somewhere less sad. Maybe a planet made of cake?'

Clara (smiling): 'Now you’re talking.'

The TARDIS dematerializes, leaving the well—and its echoes—at peace.
