Cubs Edge Out Mets in Thrilling Extra-Inning Showdown at Wrigley Field

Chicago, IL – May 10, 2025 – In a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets 5-4 in a 10-inning thriller Friday night at a packed Wrigley Field.

The Cubs, riding a four-game winning streak, got clutch performances from rookie sensation Jake Harris, who drove in the game-tying run in the 8th, and veteran slugger Cody Bellinger, whose walk-off single in the 10th sealed the victory.

'It was a total team effort,' Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. 'We fought hard, and the energy from the crowd was unbelievable.'

The Mets, who came into the game with the best record in the NL East, took an early lead thanks to a two-run homer from Pete Alonso in the 3rd inning. But Cubs starter Shota Imanaga settled in, striking out eight over six innings to keep the game within reach.

Mets reliever Edwin Díaz nearly closed it out in the 9th, but a throwing error by third baseman Brett Baty allowed the Cubs to tie the game. In the 10th, Bellinger lined a sharp single to right off Jorge López, scoring automatic runner Dansby Swanson from second base and sending the Wrigley faithful into a frenzy.

'We had our chances,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. 'But credit to the Cubs—they capitalized on our mistakes.'

The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon, with Justin Steele (CHC) set to face Kodai Senga (NYM) in what promises to be another exciting matchup.
