Former NFL Superfan 'ChiefsAholic' Sentenced to Prison for String of Bank Robberies

Kansas City, MO – May 13, 2025

Xaviar Babudar, the infamous Kansas City Chiefs superfan known as 'ChiefsAholic,' has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison following his conviction on multiple counts of armed bank robbery and money laundering.

Babudar, 32, gained notoriety for his eccentric sideline appearances at Chiefs games, where he wore a wolf costume and waved a large 'ChiefsAholic' flag. However, federal prosecutors revealed a darker side to his fandom, alleging that he funded his lavish game-day lifestyle—including front-row tickets and cross-country travel—through a spree of at least 11 bank robberies across seven states between 2019 and 2023.

Authorities say Babudar stole over $800,000, often using disguises and a firearm to intimidate bank employees. His crime spree came to an end in July 2023 after a high-speed chase in Oklahoma, where he was apprehended with a bag of cash and a Chiefs jersey in his vehicle.

During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Sarah Harper condemned Babudar’s actions, stating, 'Your reckless behavior endangered lives, all to fuel an unsustainable lifestyle.'

In a bizarre twist, Babudar’s defense argued that his gambling addiction and obsession with the Chiefs contributed to his crimes. However, prosecutors dismissed this as an excuse, pointing to his calculated planning and repeated offenses.

The case has left the Chiefs community divided, with some fans expressing sympathy while others feel betrayed. The team has since distanced itself from Babudar, issuing a statement emphasizing that his actions 'do not represent the spirit of Chiefs Kingdom.'

Babudar will also be required to pay full restitution to the affected banks. Meanwhile, his iconic wolf costume remains in FBI custody—a bizarre relic of one of the strangest fan-to-felon stories in sports history.
