So disappointed as Charles Worthington products are normally fab. I have long brunette hair so thought I would try this shampoo out, it did not Wow me with any delicious smell, it was quite a non descript smell, and it certainly did not Wow me with lathering up, I put a huge palm full of product onto my wet hair and struggled to get a good lather going, it felt like it left my hair feeling in desperate need of conditioner. I always use conditioner in my hair but my current shampoos lathers up and smells so much better than this shampoo and does not leave my hair feeling clumpy, and are a fraction of the price. You do not need to be spending £6.99 on this champagne when there are so many better cheaper nice smelling better quality shampoos on the market. I am really surprised how disappointing this shampoo was, as always this is an honest review, just because I got it for free doesn’t mean I will give it 5 stars, so frustrating to see others reviewed this item with 5 stars yet they slated its quality in the review, if it is not 5 star don’t give it 5 stars! with you.

Satisfying single-purpose shampoo

There’s little indulgence in this brunette shampoo. It has barely any aroma, it doesn’t lather much, it doesn’t tingle, it doesn’t invigorate your hair. It sparkles just a little in your hand but otherwise it is the colour of cheap oily chocolate and is reminiscent of a budget chocolate mousse. If you want a shampoo that makes you feel special, this isn’t it. What it does do, though, is quietly provide a moderately deep brown colour tint to your hair which, over a few uses, starts to tint damaged or grey hairs back towards a fairly natural and generic brunette colour. It’s not an out-and-out dye, but over time, it gradually edges it back in a way that no-one will notice as having had an artificial push. It’s mild enough that it doesn’t leave any residue of colour on your fingers or scalp, and if it weren’t for the colour of the product itself, you wouldn’t notice any other effects of this being a tinting shampoo. For hair health, it feels on my head like completely regular shampoo, no better, no worse. There’s no itching or irritation, but it doesn’t provide enough treatment to mean I can avoid pairing it with a conditioner. So I’m giving this shampoo five stars on the basis that it has one job- gentle, non-aggressive colour tint- and it does that job effectively without any complications or side-effects. I’d be surprised if it becomes many people’s new favourite shampoo though.

Smooth, shiny and bouncy hair -- tick!

I have brown hair (with a little grey which I sometimes dye brown with a henna-based dye) so was interested in trying this shampoo. I have quite fine and dull hair so the claim that I will get shiner and browner hair from using this product is attractive (and that this applies to both natural and died brunette hair); I normally use Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner. I followed the instructions and shampooed, rinsed and then applied conditioner. Ideally, I imagine you are supposed to use the matching ColourPlex conditioner with this shampoo, but I did not have it so I used a keratin-based hair mask (different brand) I did have to hand. I then washed this out, towel-dried my hair before blow-drying it. I noticed that my hair and scalp did feel nourished and smooth, and that my hair had a good deal of bounce and shine to it. Tick! It is worth noting that the shampoo smells nice too. But was the colour my brown hair enhanced? I am not certain on this score. Perhaps I need to use it longer, or it works best with fully coloured hair (helping it not to fade). I will update my review if I notice any positive results in this respect from continued use. I will continue to use this product until the bottle is finished. At that point, I will also decide if I wish to repurchase or return to Elvive Fibrology, which has worked well for me to this point.
