Champery buying blow

Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. When you register, you get our free weekly -ish snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in Username:- Password:. Or: Register to be a proper snow-head, all official-like! Page Previous 1 , 2 , Prev topic :: Next topic. Poster: A snowHead. Easy for the GM to get you home, when you can only end up further up or down the same valley in the same country. Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person. The new Pleney lift was just superb in January. Even at ski school start time, there were no queues at all. I think it will cope well, even at half term. I'm off to Champery 1st week of March. It will be my first time there so have no idea of what to expect. I am hoping to avoid drag lifts but I am a guest on the trip so will be going with the flow. Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see? Ripaille needed to reach the chairlift up the Wall is the major exception. However if you are intent on ski-ing the wall it can be reached from the Fornet bowl in Avoriaz of course. If you come along the valley to Champoussin and Morgins and you should there are a few more drags, but they aren't too bad. Good to hear about the new Pleney. Will be back there early March and will be making the Les Gets pilgrimage then. You need to Login to know who's really who. Thanks for that shep. Cracking tip but we may have to wait until later in the week as we have a beginner with us. Presumably you would also have to get your lift pass the day before we tend to buy a separate pass for each area we ski each day. Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do. Hawkeye , and thinking about it you won't come to a ticket office if you park on the road up to Avoriaz - so you are quite correct, get your passes the day before. You'll need to Register first of course. I have done the full tour from Morzine, once, through Morgins, Chattel, Le Croset etc and remember quite a few drags somewhere over near Morgins. In fact there were so many drags near Morgins, if it had been blowing mph, I could have thought I was in Scotland I am a boarder so I would prefer to avoid them, if possible. I can ride them if there is no option though. The Wall is probably not on my list. Very steep mogulled pistes are not much fun on boards, especially when there is so much good terrain elsewhere in PDS. Then you can post your own questions or snow reports Not possible to avoid them if you are in that sector. The Swiss side is not too bad though. No need to ride down The Wall - most people take the chair. You will need the drag sanman mentions if you want to head back from Les Crosets to the Fornet bowl by the chair going up The Wall though but you can avoid it by going into Les Crosets and taking Mosettes or Grand Conche chair and then the Cubore chair. After all it is free. Sorry bar shaker , was not aware you were on a board, my fault for making the assumption, yes DJL is right, there are some pretty steep and awkward drags on the Chatel side of Morgins or possibly it is the Morgins side of Chatel, I am never sure where the join is You can certainly do most of les Crosets without using a drag lift, and to get to the centre of Morgins, there are two but there are none that you have to take on the way back, curiously, although there are a couple you will need if you stray off the circuit down into Champoussin. You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net. Hawkeye , You're welcome! But yes you would need to have passes already, or pick them up at the little cabin by the Avoriaz outdoor carpark bottom of the mini-boardpark only 20 yards from the road, and then drive back down to the Fromagerie. Ski the Net with snowHeads. Thanks Guys! Les Coqs broke down leaving some of our group suspended for 20 minutes. Glad I was on the cable that continued running. The map doesn't show a piste back to Champery. Is there a good off piste route or is it only the cable car back down? You need to bomb this at the top to get up momentum for the bottom - difficult because it is narrow and you are likely to be slowed by dawdlers - and even then you will have trouble lower down as it is flat, flat, flat. Not much fun on skis and even less on a board. It also finishes some way out of town so there is a short bus ride as well. I would get the cable car down if I were you. And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports. The new Morzine gondola is doing a brilliant job. No queues even on day 1 of the half term. The fresh snow knee deep made skiing tricky on the unpisted blacks and reds. Anyone that thought I kept falling on the Yeti this morning can be assured it was actually 'street theatre' to keep those on the chairlift amused! So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much. Is it just me, or was it supernaturally quiet today around Morzine-Les Gets? No queue on any lift, anywhere, any time today. The snow was glorious - soft light powder great for playing in although I got a fat lip from an errant passing tree or rather from an errant me passing by a perfectly innocent tree whose twig-like branches were just trying to catch some snow instead of me. You know it makes sense. Queued for 20 mins on chavannes express at one point. Elsewhere I didn't have to queue more than 5 mins though and was a lot quieter on the morzine side. Yes snow was nice, though no sunshine today. Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:. A few posts higher up sanman , comments on routes to Champery. I've skied down to Grand Paradis from Ripaille many times and also from the top of the cable car to the bottom of the second Planachaux chair but have no idea where the Planachaux - Grand Paradis piste goes. Is it ever open? I'm always keen to find a few new runs and would have thought after the recent snow that there should be enough to get down it now. Still not enough snow for it to be open. The lower slopes are pretty scratchy. I ski it home sometimes and when there is new snow the tree runs there are amazing. If it suddenly opens I will post. Whats the snow like at the moment, and any chance of a dump now before end of season or is that all she wrote? Snow good although warm weather means its starting to get heavy on lower slopes and a little thin in places. Maybe a snow sprinkling on Saturday night. Err this is not the weather thread Oops sorry but ironically i have never been able to find the weather thread, I found this one ages ago and subscribed, but can't fidn the other. Won't do it again, but thanks for the feedback. I did not take it in anyway badly. I do know there is a proper thread somewhere which is why this one exists as a run off for all the off-topic but actually often more useful inside info about the PDS. We have just gone from St Jean d'Aulps where we had been skiing to the Prodains area to collect some glass for a new shelf in the fridge why oh why do people renting a chalet not tell you that they have broken it, or the corkscrew so we, as owners, have to discover it and then organise replacements - the friend we have staying with us said he was beginning to feel quite like a local going off to the glaziers etc. We did carry on to show him where the new Prodains lift goes, and saw the new little poma drag that has been put in there. I imagine that must be for people who are dropped off or park well before the new big lift can go up and ski across to it. I hear what you say about feeling like a local. The joys of apartment ownership. Thanks for resurrecting this one though, it was probably down around page six of the Piste by now. Loved our trip to morzine this year, naughty as we went the week before half term. We really like the place, so much so we go back in summer for some dh mountain biking. Would morzine be any good? Don't mind slush, just don't wasn't to end up hill walking! Morzine aime les femmes! Big changes happening at the Grand Ourse on Mt Chery. Fron next year The main restaurant is closing and being turned into a high class chalet with helipad and all. There will be a restaurant but only 40 odd covers. They will still do the gourmets evenings. Chattonmill , presumably snowcat access when it's a bit misty? Yep, skidoos as well. It is being designed by the same guy who did the Shard. Sounds amazing! Cats and skidoos non-emergency are banned from open pistes by Arrete Prefectorial since 6 or 7 years ago. Can't imagine the chopper being allowed in there for fun either during opening hours. So the chalet would be cut-off to non-skiers. Chattonmill , well that's a great shame While I wish the Vennings much success presuming they are staying? Oh, ok then, well played owners! Its when you go round the corner and they are all over the road it can be a problem. We have had them up where we are in the past, hoof marks everywhere but I was alarmed a few years ago to be walking home and see a few big pigs - OH pointed them out and I thought he was joking but as we got closer realised he was right. They disappeared up behind our neighbours chalet - and left lots of evidence. Reviving this so non-weather queries on the Weather thread can be re-directed here. Someone did start a new PdS related general thread last year, which is why this one became dormant, but I can't find it, so I've dragged this one from its electronic grave. Ah that's great. Why did it not come up in my search results? I searched every one of the words in its title and, nothing. Oh well. Edit: it's in the Resort Reviews forum. New Topic Post Reply. Snow Snow Snow! Champery World Championships - Day 3. Aug 31, You must login to Pinkbike. Don't have an account? Sign up. Just another beautiful day at the office. Duncan Riffle makes his way out of the start gate for team USA. Aaron Gwin. Judging by his speed on the track already, he is the man to beat once again this week. Aaron has a quiet confidence about him this week. No swagger, no trash talk. A man on a mission. Floriane Pugin has been coming on strong all season. Home soil, here for Pugin, too. The only possible wrench in the monkey works is the fact that it's supposed to rain--no surprises; it is, after all, Champery--and she rides clips. And the legendary Champery mud will clog clips in seconds. Loic Bruni is rocking the number 2 plate, but beating out Troy Brosnan is likely going to be a tall order. Ben Reid shows everyone what happens when you jump the hip to flat. Into the trees and a cloud of dust you go. Laughing, joking and having fun all the way down the track. Brendawg takes to the air on his shiny new ride. I haven't seen him this excited to ride his downhill bike all season. Watch out, he could be a sleeper in Switzerland. Needles gets loose in the dust up top. Rain is on tap for tomorrow, and traction may actually get better when the track tacks up. A little bit sideways Enjoy the sunshine, boys; the forecast is for rain. Ben Reid, try 2. This time he stayed on track. This does not look like the side of an elevator shaft, but I damn near had to use crampons and ropes to perch here for this shot. Marcelo got 4 runs in somehow this morning. He is serious about doing well here in Switzerland. Luke Strobel sending it with some NW flair. Again, the man to watch. Funny how this track doesn't really look steep from this angle. Super fan here was riding the chair up and down all day during practice, and sniping away. Swiss MTB fans redefining the term 'give it more cowbell. Caffeine really does run the MTB world. Benno of Specialized Factory racing rocking the new Italian machine. Big Mike at Fox Racing Shox using the 'by feel' torque setting. Not a whole lot of rocks on this track to put a wheel out of true, yet somehow Sam Blenkinsop found a way to keep Jack busy. Most be all the body english Blenki puts on the bike. Brake bleeds. Jacy's favorite activity. At most races, bleeds only happen if racers have an issue of some kind. On this track, they're pretty much mandatory at the end of each practice. Champery is hard on brakes. The entire track here has TV cables strung up and down it. Coverage should be exceptional. There's even a relay station in this hut halfway up the mountain. Freecaster won't be around for the World Cups next year, according to owner Ray Dulieu, due to budget concerns. At least they are going to go out in style! Photos by Colin Meagher and Fraser Britton. IanHylands Aug 31, at They tried that a year or so ago and everyone complained. So the teams and UCI stepped in a paid them a whack of money don't quote me on any details and they made it free. Obviously it's not working Steezysix Aug 31, at How much? If everyone on PB donated donated a few quid to Freecaster, surely they'd get it? C'mon, community! Id be up for donations, Freecaster has done wonders for the sport. RobbyBriers Aug 31, at I'm pretty sure that golf is not a sport TV means no Warner and that would suck big style. I'd happily pay Freecaster to watch WCs without tech glitches. Tyler Aug 31, at No worries, i am sure you will still hear him shouting 'look at the time' where ever you are Hopefully coverage is sorted or next year. KennyKillsIt Aug 31, at But imagine the rights were bought by BBC american equivalent? It would bring the sport into new era. More money. More sponsors. More events. It would awesome. I'm not saying Freecaster is shit. I'm saying that this sport has so so much more potential than 5 camera's strapped on the hill. I know Eurosport do the events well some at least. But it's not brilliant coverage. This great sport deserves the coverage like F1. Unlikely in the near future, but imagine coverage of qualifying, and have presenters, like Mr Barel. So don't take this the wrong way.. But maybe it's not an awful thing if someone else has a crack at it. My ideas are a long shot at the moment, but i can see it in the future, Our sport being big. My ideas. Cheers for listening haahahaa. Ogalosh Aug 31, at Yeah why does tour de france get so much more coverage than off road biking? Not cool! Would you really want downhill turning mainstream though? Sponsorship dictating results, corruption and the whole celebrity bullshit side? I personally think it would ruin the sport. Compare the atmosphere at Ft William now with a few years back; Back then it was a huge party on the hill - lads, beer and banter, a proper troop of supporters, now its steadily turning into a family outing and gentle clapping - Yeah maybe thats a little exaggerated but you definitely notice its lacking something that was there not so many years back. As with all opinions though, maybe its just me. Waldon83 Aug 31, at People with ideas like you Steezysix make the world better, count me in. Let's free Freecaster. Interesting to read the comments on the forum. I keep reading that people would happily fund the coverage but to date for the worlds we have registered pay per view passes, we need to cover costs As to coverage, you all think MTB deserves TV coverage but the reality is that the sport attract The only option is to grow the popularity of the sport first and show big numbers on the web, then some satellite and cable TV channels might show interest but they will not pay rights nor fund the TV production which is stuck with cameras per race as long as there isn't a sponsor willing to fund the world cup and then we're back to square one, no sponsor is interested unless there is an audience. For the last 5 years, I've invested with Freecaster to grow the sport and yet the numbers just don't add up. There aren't enough viewers and thus not enough sponsors and thus not enough revenues. If the coverage is to have a future on Freecaster it will be down to the fans and so far for the worlds I'm counting not the thousands that one would expect are out there. So if you want to play an active role, buy your pass and get your friends to join. If we sell more than passes for the worlds, then maybe we can reassess the options for the future. The big problem to buy a pass is that, despite of the fact that you want to see it, sometimes the show doesn't deserve what they cost. To pay just for the race and nothing else is a little short. Paying a pass one would expect a special program talking about the race before it, remembering some data and statistics oh, everyone love this Something that make you think 'Race day, man. Popcorn, beers and my couch. I'll stay at home'. But pay just for the bare race I don't see it. Yeah, it cost money but if you want to have people paying for it you have to deserve that. This doesn't remove the fact that freecaster is one of the very few places which had tried something with MTB sport and we are grateful for it. Goose76 FL Sep 1, at Ray-freecaster, it's now purchases. I was going to purchase a couple of hours before the race but your message was a call to arms for me. It's six months until next season starts and I'm hoping an appropriate outcome is achieved between now and then. The service Freecaster has provided has been fantastic and I'm immensely grateful. What Freecaster has done for the accessibility of viewing MTB racing cannot be under estimated, and to those complaining about a fee, you don't know what you got until it's gone. Thankyou Ray and the team at Freecaster, I'm extremely appreciative. JaseZ Sep 1, at Ill buy them!! I would purchase a pass to watch the World Champs without any hesitation if it weren't for the technical glitches i've experienced with Freecaster to date If the coverage was reliable, complete, and a bit more in-depth.. Just making the point that quality of delivery is another factor when it comes to drawing in the numbers I'd like to buy a pass to watch the world champs but the weekend it's on is the weekend i move house and thus have no internet connection, epic fail! It'll be a shame to not have freecaster next year, but i for one would pay for it if the option were there. Add another pass purchased to the tally. Watching live streaming world cups, listening to Rob and crew, the whole waking up early when it's in Europe. I just don't want to imagine life without that. Now I just have to hope our Whistler condo has the wifi's this weekend! Cheers Freecaster, we love you! T-u-R-b-O Sep 1, at Yeah I have to agree that 30 euros just for raceday is a tat bit heavy on the budget for a 'privateer' What I am wondering though - the are a couple of multi-million dollar corporations like specialized, santa Cruz, etc which benefit from these a lot due to their products being advertised picture by how much the sales of TREK must have gone up after this season - therefore I wonder why they don't step in and help funding because its only in their interest to do so?? I have watched every race for the past few years. DirtyDee Sep 1, at I've watched every race for the last few seasons and can't express how much joy Freecaster has brought me and my riding buddies. So for that i thank you. Ray-Freecaster I am planning on paying for the service come race day, as I'm sure many others are. If possible could you comment after the race and let us know how many signed up and if you broke even. I agree with many others that it would be such a loss to not have the coverage next season so it would be nice to keep the lines of communication open with the fans and let us know what it would take to keep you guys providing the service. Roll on Sunday Road gets more coverage than DH because it generates more money As long as the majority of downhill riders are teenage douchebags downhill will flounder for mainstream coverage DH has a very long way to go in terms of its image before it'll ever be mainstream. As far as paid freecaster goes Their video is occasionally choppy, their bandwidth mediocre, and their camera coverage on track is questionable so basically, it's not a product anyone is goign to be too excited about paying for. Case in point, the freecaster site won't even load right now and the Rob Warner course preview took my 50mbps connection 5 minutes to buffer I downloaded a 6gb copy of Solidworks last night in 20 minutes but an 8 minute video takes 5 just to start buffering, not awesome at all If DH ever got enough exposure for Versus or someone bought the rights and broadcasted it in HD like they do the TdF, I'd take that over shitty internet video any day of the week but the reality is, it's just too small market for any broadcast organization with the infrastructure to do it justice to be bothered with covering it. I couldn't resist and purchased the pass to watch the Champs.. What an awesome show Brett Tippie's camio appearance had me in stitches I think Nigel does a good balancing act to help keep Rob on topic and to bring a bit more technical commentary to the show Christo is there anything about bikes that you dont know?? That is clearly not a Status. There doesn't seem to be nearly the media or fanboy hype around the Carbon Demo that there was around the Carbon Session a couple of months ago. When Gwin raced on the Session 9. It just depends on whether the bike companies give the websites and magazines a lot of info or not. And which companies the sites get support from. On that link from Whitetux. We saw the carbon Demo at Crankworx a month or so ago for those that were paying attention. You can see it here it doesn't look like much has changed since then, these ones just have nice shiny paint on them. The only reason the Session got a lot more coverage is because the man of the moment and probably many more Aaron Gwin is riding it! EnduroManiac Aug 31, at No Home Soil for Pugin. France is very close and the Savoie flag on her helmet looks like a swiss flag but it's not. But I guess there'll be plenty of french guys me! Oisans Aug 31, at I was gonna say that. Really want to see someone beat Gwin for once fantastic athlete but is anyone else abit fed up? Brendan Fairclough back in a Troy lee designs d3 helmet too! That makes the whole team back in them I thought Brendan was gonna be rockin the new Carbon Specialized Dissident lid??? Sounds like Freecaster. I want freecaster! I like seeing how freeking fast these guys are. I really liked the side by side clips. If a politician can raise million to blow on bs,freecaster can be saved. Come on Guys Some fabulous photos there, making me VERY jealous not to be in attendance, but guessing it will be one hell of a last outing for Freecaster and one I won't be missing. I remember when the BBC did coverage one year, apparently they had so many complaints from the arm chair football beer belly brigade as it was on when footy should have been on, so they didn't bother again. Antron Sep 1, at That's upsetting. This sport is so much more entertaining than ball sports. Like WTF? And even on the days of WRC races - say hello to Nascar. JHewitt Aug 31, at Damn I love these photographers segments! Thanks PB. That's worked out real nice that the shot of Jack truing the wheel is right at the 'Precision hand built' sticker. B-Rain Aug 31, at C'mon Minnaar, be the one to wear the stripes next year. Kill it. Hope they keep on selling the demo. They're still selling the alu. Demo's for , the lineup is on Spesh's site now. But man, carbon Demo's are just Nobble Aug 31, at I feel llike i'm gonna be getting up as 5am or something, haha. I think sam is going to go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that a Fox specific vice grip that Big Mike is using? They're made by Knipex. Flat jaw, adjustable and self ratcheting pliers. Awesome for working on stuff with smaller wrench flats! Specialized Espresso Cups! Whoa, what bike is Floriane Pugin riding? It sure aint a Gambler.. Post a Comment Login or Sign Up. All rights reserved. Mobile Version of Website.
