The NDEA said it arrested two men in connection with the delivery of heroin that arrived here in a parcel by post. Those arrested are an employed male in his forties from Beau Bel and a year-old unemployed male from Hangard Street. The men were arrested after a surveillance operation of known suspects was carried out over a number of days. The parcel containing a substance suspected to be heroin was delivered by post to Seychelles. The drug is believed to have originated from India and the importation to have been planned by persons involved in the distribution of illegal drugs to the local market. The operation culminated in the two men being taken into custody and the recovery of the suspected drugs. The second case of drug trafficking detected by the NDEA occurred on October 22, when two men were arrested at Castor Road for drug trafficking. One is a year-old casual labourer from Beau Vallon and the other a year-old self employed from La Gogue. They have both been charged with trafficking in a controlled drug, contrary to section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The two men were arrested by NDEA agents after being found with a plastic bag containing 89 small packets of herbal material individually wrapped in cling film, and a second small clear plastic bag containing herbal material and seeds. The herbal material is suspected to be controlled drugs namely cannabis. A quantity of Seychelles currency was also seized during the operation. In a third case last Saturday, a year-old from Anse Aux Pins was arrested after NDEA agents discovered 64 cannabis plants and some grams of cannabis during the course of a planned operation against known drug dealers.
