Brooklyn Half Marathon 2025 Draws Record Crowds Amid Perfect Running Conditions

Brooklyn, NY – May 17, 2025 – The 2025 Brooklyn Half Marathon saw a record-breaking turnout today as thousands of runners took to the streets under clear skies and mild temperatures. The iconic 13.1-mile race, organized by New York Road Runners (NYRR), showcased Brooklyn’s vibrant neighborhoods, with participants racing from Prospect Park to the Coney Island boardwalk.

A Fast and Competitive Race

This year’s event featured elite athletes and recreational runners alike, with Kenya’s Samuel Kiprono and the USA’s Emily Sisson claiming the men’s and women’s titles, respectively. Kiprono crossed the finish line in 1:01:45, while Sisson set a new personal best with a time of 1:08:22.

'The energy from the crowd was incredible,' Sisson said after the race. 'Running through Brooklyn and finishing at Coney Island is always a special experience.'

Community Spirit on Full Display

Spectators lined the course, cheering on runners with live music, homemade signs, and noisemakers. Local businesses also joined in, offering free water, snacks, and encouragement. The race’s finish line festival at Coney Island featured food trucks, live entertainment, and a celebratory atmosphere.

'This is my third Brooklyn Half, and it just keeps getting better,' said Javier Rodriguez, a Brooklyn resident who completed the race in under two hours. 'The support from the community makes all the difference.'

A Focus on Accessibility and Inclusion

NYRR continued its commitment to inclusivity, with adaptive divisions for athletes with disabilities and expanded resources for first-time runners. The race also partnered with local charities, raising over $500,000 for youth running programs and community initiatives.

Looking Ahead

With another successful edition in the books, organizers are already planning for next year’s race. 'The Brooklyn Half is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of this borough’s spirit,' said NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer. 'We can’t wait to do it all again in 2026.'
