At dawn, the ground trembled. Cracks split the earth, and from the shattered peaks, the Stone Giants rose. Their eyes glowed like molten rock, and their voices rumbled like thunder. The people of Eldermere watched in terror as the giants stretched their limbs, shaking off centuries of stillness.

No one knew why they had awakened—some said it was an ancient prophecy, others claimed a reckless sorcerer had disturbed their rest. But one thing was certain: if the giants reached the city, nothing would survive.

The Game Begins
The city’s defenders—knights, mages, and even a few brave farmers—rushed to the valley where the giants marched. Their only hope was an old legend: the Giants’ Game. According to myth, the giants were bound by an ancient challenge. If outwitted or outplayed, they would return to their slumber.

The rules were simple but deadly. The giants would hurl boulders toward the city, and the defenders had to deflect or destroy them before they struck. If the city remained standing by sunset, the giants would retreat. If not, Eldermere would be crushed.

The Battle of Wits and Strength
The defenders scrambled into action. Mages wove shields of magic, archers fired ropes to divert boulders mid-air, and engineers built catapults to counter the giants’ throws. Each impact shook the valley, but the people fought on.

As the sun dipped low, the giants grew impatient. The largest of them, Grondar the Unyielding, lifted a boulder the size of a house. With a roar, he hurled it toward Eldermere’s last standing tower—the heart of the city.

The Final Play
A young inventor named Lira had one last trick. She launched her untested device—a net of enchanted chains—into the boulder’s path. The chains wrapped around it, and with a mighty pull from the city’s defenders, the boulder was redirected—straight back at Grondar.

The giant stumbled, crashing to the ground with a quake that echoed for miles. The other giants froze. Then, as the last light of day faded, they bowed their heads in respect. The game had been won.

With a final rumble, the Stone Giants turned and trudged back to their mountain tombs, settling once more into eternal slumber.

Epilogue
Eldermere celebrated through the night, but Lira stood at the city’s edge, watching the mountains. She knew the game was only a delay, not a victory. Somewhere deep below, the giants waited.

And one day, they would play again.
