The expected favorite in men's downhill on Feb. Only Chinese residents can buy tickets for Beijing Olympic events, including alpine ski races on courses created for the games at the new resort of Xiaohaituo in Yanqing district. Still, there were no public health rules in place at the Olympics where Feuz took bronze in downhill and silver in super-G on a sparsely attended and quiet hill at Jeongseon, South Korea. The main grandstand was all but empty when Feuz and the other downhill medalists did media interviews in the finish area. Then, alpine racing will return to heartland venues at Cortina d'Ampezzo and Bormio in Italy. Hosting the Olympics is key to Chinese President Xi Jinping's target to have million people taking part in winter sports, even if the games venues get little natural snow. World Cup venues in Europe and North America routinely use artificial snow to help prepare more reliable surfaces. Feuz has not raced on the next Olympic courses because a scheduled stop on the men's World Cup circuit to test them in February was canceled as the coronavirus outbreak spread from China. This weekend, Olympic contenders in ski cross are in China for World Cup races to test their course at the Secret Garden resort. Reports back from the Swiss team have concerned Feuz, who is in Canada preparing for the first World Cup downhill of the season on Friday at Lake Louise. Skip to main content Skip to navigation. A school in Swansea which has just returned from a skiing trip to northern Italy have told pupils that they still have to come in. Forty-eight pupils and staff at Birchgrove Comprehensive School have recently returned from a ski visit to Bormio. However the school has told parents that their children must attend school as normal unless showing 'flu like symptoms'. This is in line with official advice from the UK Government which says anyone returning from an area of Northern Italy not part of the specific lockdown areas of the country, should stay indoors and avoid contact with other people only if they show symptoms, however mild. It says they do not need to follow this advice if they have no symptoms. Despite this, two schools in England have decided to close following pupils returning from ski trips in Italy. Cransley School in Northwich, Cheshire has closed after some pupils on the trip to Bormio, were 'showing flu-like symptoms'. This message has led to concern amongst several parents with some even taking their children out of school as they are not prepared to 'take any risks'. One parent, who has asked not to be named said that it is scary for all parents with children at the school. Parents want to take their children out of school but they will be penalised for unauthorised absence. The school have said that they are not doing anything unless symptoms occur. A statement released by Birchgrove Comprehensive School on their Facebook page said: 'In relation to pupils who recently returned from our ski visit to Bormio. Some towns in Italy are currently on lockdown after a rapid spread of the virus, although Swansea Council pointed out Bormio, where the Birchgrove pupils went to, was km from the nearest case. Earlier today Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that the official advice around coronavirus is being updated so that people returning to the UK from anywhere in northern Italy should self-isolate if they have flu-like symptoms. Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, Mr Hancock added that people returning from any areas quarantined by the Italian government should self-isolate whether they show symptoms or not. China and South Korea have reported more coronavirus cases as clusters of the disease grow in Europe and the Middle East and global concern increases. Video Loading Video Unavailable.
