Spoilers The Box - It never mentions what the box is, what's in it, where the guy came from or why it causes someone to lose their appetite till they die. It especially leaves out how just telling someone about the box makes them starve to death also. The Birthday Party - Wasn't really a horror short. A mom goes out of her way to try and make her daughter's birthday party a good time. And I really mean out of her way. Nothing will keep her from the birthday party happening. I guess it is hinting at how some parents will go crazy trying to make things perfect for their kids. Don't Fall - Probably the only one I would classify as horror. But I don't understand what the title or theme of Don't Fall has to do with the short. Someone did fall but it really had nothing to do with the short and could have been left out and it would not affect the short at all. They do mention once to someone "Don't Fall" but those are pretty lame tie-ins with the script. It's like calling a show Great White and you see a Great White at an aquarium and the rest of the show happens on land. Her Only Living Son - I understood most of it but did not understand what happened at the end. Did mom and son crush each other to death or did the devil do it when they rejected the devil? As examples of female horror writers, this was not a good collection. But as an anthology it was OK. I have seen far worse where I could not watch it or would not watch it again. ABC's of Death is an example of this. I did not know what the shorts were going to be about and I really hate stopping once I start watching but this one had child porn, poop and toilet shorts, and a whole host of other nasty subjects that were not horror but just disgusting and done for the shock value. Anyway, give this one a watch. It is not great and I would not submit this to someone to showcase women horror writers but it is OK. It would be better if they made the idea of the short clear. The Box was especially confusing and it ends as they had half more to go and just clipped off the rest of the movie and submitted it to fit in a time frame.

This strikes me, honestly, as a series of shorts written to hit the nightmare nerve for moms. New moms, experienced moms, doesn't matter. These are the bad dreams that jerk us out of deep dreams on occasion. SPOILERS: (I will try to make them tease style not spoil style but no promises) Story one: an illness with no explanation. How many of us moms dream of and dread the inability to fix any and all problems our kids have? Story two: how many of us moms have the utter fear of being left on our own? Be it for a high stress party, or for the rest of our parenthood?.... what would we do to deny those issues?.... Story three: vacations are fantastic. But out of routine and possibly out of our control.... Story four: our kids grow up. And sometimes we have no control of the results, no matter how awesome we are as a mom. In the end, with the possible exception of the third story, I definitely feel that these stories are designed to dig into the emotional reaponse first and foremost of mothers, secondly as wives. Regardless, they are all well acted, the stories are interesting, (if confusing at times) and this is a good indie compilation worth the time of horror buffs.

1 - The Box: Story is actually interesting BUT too bad author is lazy and can't figure out how to end the story. Mainly WHAT'S IN THE FREAKING BOX??? What spoiled their appetites? Dog turds? Justin Bieber CDs? Probably a DVD of this movie would be my guess. 2 - The Birthday Party: The point of the story? Oh, that's right. There isn't one. 3 - Don't Fall: OK, girl turns into monster, everyone dies. If only, we could be so lucky. 4 - Her Only Living Son: I don't know if she had another one, but if so, at least he didn't have to watch this. Typical dad makes deal with the devil, son grows up to be the son of the devil story. Changes mind at the end, I guess so they both die. If you're looking for a satisfying horror anthology, look elsewhere.

xx (2017). this excellent anthology features four films directed by jovanka vuckovic, annie clark, roxanne benjamin, and karyn kusama. each director effects a certain mood in each film, and it is a delight to see what these directors have to offer. many of the films explore certain aspects of family, particularly the challenges of motherhood. we get there through psychological terror, the soul-crushing exercise of watching ones' family taken from them, people we love not being who we think they are, and very effective, efficient straight-up monster mayhem. the perspectives--all women, with primary female protagonists--are a breath of fresh air, and something sorely lacking in all films, not to mention horror. excellent and creative make-ups throughout. if i had any criticism of this movie, it would be that it's too short. a few of the films (don't fall in particular) could have been a little longer, plus, there was more than enough room for a fifth flick. the shorts are connected by gorgeously creepy and xxxxed up stop-motion animations. don't pay attention to the low ratings on this one: it's good, very good. if you are a fan of horror, of anthology films, buy this fantastic movie.

After seeing The Invitation and seeing that the director was in here, I wanted to check it out. There aren't necessarily a lot of female voices in the horror genre, at least among directors, so it's pretty cool that there's a bunch on here. Unfortunately, most of the shorts aren't very good. And one of them is basically the plot of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. A coincidence more than anything but regardless of which came first it still felt very "same".

All the stories were flat without any substance. The characters were one dimensional and forgettable. Nothing scary/creepy/horror-like, just a bunch of random stories with ridiculous endings. I wanted to like this but, every time a story ended I just thought "well, that was stupid."

This film consists of 4 short films, all horror-based. What a colossal disappointment this was! The 1st and 3rd stories are formulaic and tired, the 2nd is just so downright stupid that I was literally shaking my head, and the 4th is so gratuitously ugly and gory that I stopped watching mid-story. Don't waste your time.

This short anthology series started out interesting, but ultimately only the first short was decent. The others felt like rehashes of other better told stories, or messy ideas that were neither scary or interesting. If you've got time to waste, then it's only worth checking out if you want to write a review about it.
