The study reported is an attempt to describe the drug use among the youth in Baguio and Benguet The drugs most commonly used by the youth in Baguio and Benguet are marijuana, heroin, amphetamine and barbiturates. Every youth who used drugs tried marijuana. Marijuana served as the introduction to other potentially dangerous drugs. Thus, marijuana is a drug of initiation since the drug is both widely available and acceptable to the youth. The variety of drugs used combined with the frequent giving up of the use of heroin by the youth in Baguio and Benguet, suggests that the problem of drug addiction is not simply one of physical dependence on heroin per se or any other illicit drug, but rather the general readiness of the person to use drugs that after mood or level of consciousness. Satisfaction of curiosity is the motivational force in the initial experimentation with marijuana. Moreover, it is the same curiosity that motivated the youth to try other potentially dangerous drugs. Peer groups also have an enormous influence upon the youth to try using other drugs. Since curiosity played the major role in the experimentation on mindaltering drugs among the youth in Baguio and Benguet, educators, school administrators and parents must capitalize on the youths curiosity. Creative activities that challenge and stimulate the imagination are needed. Such activities must include those that are in conformity with the present projects of the government relevant to nation building. The youth must also realize that curiosity is a trait that requires greater assumption of responsibility and real concern. It focuses on the rays of conscience. Thus, before one experiments with drugs, he must first ask himself the following: 'Who am I? What is my purpose in this world? Is is wise to experiment with drugs. Summary and Conclusions.
