Overland Park is a great suburb of Kansas City. It has a terrific family atmosphere. There are plenty of places to eat and shop. OP also has great sports facilities including a world-class youth soccer complex as well as several top-notch sports academies. Sitting just 15 minutes outside of Kansas City, Overland Park also has access to world-class performing arts, KC Royals, KC Chiefs, the College Basketball Experience including the entertainment district Power & Light, Country Club Plaza, Crown Center (Hallmark), and much more. Of course being the BBQ capital of the nation we also are close to KC Joe's, Hayward's, Jack Stack, Gates, and more!

Overland Park is an idyllic suburban center--rife with religious/community centers, wooded trails that are safe to venture after dusk, a multitude of shopping/dining areas, proximity to KC, excellent public schools, and a typical "Midwestern" sense of values, hospitality, and courtesy. I am extremely grateful & blessed to have been raised in such a community; but, as I grow older, I have come to recognize some of the deep-seeded issues within the area. Growing up, I never truly put to mind the massive inequalities that exist within Johnson County. While I do believe that the Blue Valley School District takes the best interests of any and all students to heart, I now recognize that less-fortunate students, students with learning disabilities, and students of color were excluded from many social events. I would like to see a greater effort by parents of the community to instill the values of inclusion and acceptance of their peers within their children, especially in these trying times.
