A not-so-good movie about absolutely horrible women and men, but it's totally addictive. I have watched this movie about 5 or 6 times and I love and hate it a little more each time. It's just so horrible and awesome! One of those guilty pleasure movies you just get in the mood for, like Clueless or She's All That. You know it's wrong, but you just do it anyway. Like eating Taco Bell! The humor is dark. And mean. If you like jokes about dead babies and insult comedy with a dash of chick flickness, you might like this one. Watch this with your girlfriends AFTER you get married so you can feel good that none of this stuff happened to you. **SOME SPOILERS BELOW** Basically, the cast of the Mean Girls grew up and took drugs and now they're getting married. Post-college aged, single, mean mean mean mean chicks get together and make a mess of this one poor girls' wedding. You will feel so so sorry for Becky (the bride) by the end. You might feel a teeny tiny bit sorry for the other horrible women in this film, but maybe not. From the beginning I felt awful for Becky. She's a full figured woman who has landed a hottie fiance and is the first of her group of friends to get married. For some reason the other girls feel she doesn't completely deserve her sweet fiance because she's not skinny. A good part of this movie is spent making fun of her for not being a size 2. Katie (red snapper) is depressed and needs a celexa instead of cocaine. She has self esteem issues and her life is going nowhere, she has a complete come-apart the night before the wedding which causes total chaos. Poor thing is crying for help and no one sees it. Reagan (Kirsten Dunst) is not really worth feeling sorry for aside from the fact that her hair is super greasy through the movie. She is super jealous of Becky for being the first to get married. She's a good friend in that she goes out of her way to control situations and make things happen, but she's a terrible friend because she's a horrible person. She's a greasy headed Regina George. She brings up the meanest stuff at the worst possible times. Jenna (the brunette one) is my favorite. She's mean and dark and the type of person I almost turned into when I was 20, and glad I didn't. She's on drugs, drinks too much, and she's underweight by about 10 pounds. She has a dark emotional background that she uses self deprecating humor and sarcasm to cover up. The guys in this movie are not worth describing. They're every guy in every movie like this ever. The theory about guys in bed (the convenience store scene) is 100% true. My friends and I spent about 15-20 sad, sad years testing it. We felt gratified as a unit when someone finally put it into words for the world to acknowledge. In the end everything turns out kind of okay. The wedding happens. But there's no proper resolution and you kind of feel empty inside. Like you didn't watch a comedy at all, more like some horrible tragedy. You need to watch a comedy after watching this comedy in order to sleep at night.

Strange thing with this film. It actually came out last year in America, but wasn't released over here. Then it was, this summer, but if you blinked you missed it. Never saw a trailer, or an advert - if there hadn't been press screenings, it would have gone totally unnoticed. Which was a pity, because the reviews were very positive. So, never one to let things get in the way of doing what we want we hit the Amazons, and two short weeks later the DVD rocked up. Free postage too. Call that a win. (The UK release looks like being in October.) And so we settled down to see what all the fuss was about... The story is becoming very well-worn. It's a wedding comedy a la Bridesmaids, whereby four friends who don't really like each other that much have to gather because one of them has gotten herself all engaged and is about to have one of them there weddings. With liberal use of booze, Columbian marching powder, a strip club, an ex's mum's house and the hotel, hilarity ensues. Kinda. It's a weird thing that I wanted to laugh a lot more at Bachelorette than I actually did. That's not to say it isn't funny - it is, in places. It's just that those places are a bit too far apart. And it's not the performances, either. Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher are good, Rebel Wilson does what she does, and Lizzy Caplan is excellent at doing dark humour... Nope, that's all good. Sure the male characters aren't up to much, but they're really just there for garnish anyhoo. It's the women who are taking centre stage here. So why, why, why, why, why is it not a riotous laugh-in gag fest? Part of the reason is the characters are so flawed and so damaged that the dark side of their personalities actually becomes a central theme, bringing the drama to the fore at the expense of the comedy. The other issue is believability. By going for the traditional 'odd-ball mix of characters' (tight-ass, druggy loser, air head, normal but fat), writer Lesley Headland has actually pushed things too far. Dunst's character is SO uptight, there is no way she would lower herself to hanging out with Caplan's sluttish boozer or Fisher's empty-headed party girl. And she's certainly too shallow to still be friends with someone she once referred to as pig face. Having said all that though, it does have its sweet moments. It's a bit 'comedy-by-numbers' at times, but when it works it really works (Caplan's chat over a wedding dress with a stripper in the club's toilet is a particular highlight) and there are romantic moments to keep things ticking along. Sure, getting people to like the unlikeable (Dunst, Fisher and Caplan's characters don't have a lot to commend them) is a tough gig, but it can be done. Bachelorette is no We're The Millers, but it's still a thousand times better than Movie 43. Find more reviews at unsaltedpopcorn.blogspot.co.uk

I don't understand the hate this movie gets, but let's try to put it into context (spoilers ahead): You're not supposed to like/support the Beefaces or excuse their behavior. They are legitimately terrible people. But they're funny, and cute together in their own way, and there's still pieces of them that are relatable despite their obvious flaws, so you can start to understand them. The side characters really shine in this movie, too. It's perfectly cast, and you see two traditionally 'face' actors (Marsden and Scott) in heel roles. I love that Rebel Wilson is given the chance to play someone confident in herself, who has already found someone who sees that her character is a beautiful worthy person (rather than searching to find that person). The Beefaces and their love interests all have great chemistry and play off each other so well. The pacing of the movie is excellent. It's just really enjoyable. Another review compared it to a "female version of the Hangover" and I have to agree. It definitely is, and it's totally worth a watch.

On the surface the movie is about three girls who are bridesmaids for one of their friends. The night before the wedding the bridesmaids mess up the bride's dress and have only hours to get it fixed before the wedding. While the movie is a comedy and has some really funny parts, it mostly has very serious undertones. One bridesmaid is a former bulimic and control freak and upset that her life is not on track, another bridesmaid struggles with drug addiction (coke) and her complicated relationship with an ex, and the last bridesmaid, who also abuses drugs and alcohol, is promiscuous to feel better about herself. This movie is nothing like Bridesmaids which has a lighter tone and typical SNL humor. Bachelorette's humor is dark, raw and often sexually profane (may be offensive to some). The movie should have been given a different title so it would not be compared to Bridesmaids. They are nothing alike. It seems that the writer's were going more toward an American Pie/Get Him to the Greek type of humor. On a positive note, the acting is good and all of the lead actresses give it their best with what they had to work with. I enjoyed it enough to be glad that I watched it. It is the type of movie that left me thinking, "wow, that could have been a r
