Anita Ekberg, the Swedish actress who immortalised the Trevi fountain by bathing in it in the film La Dolce Vita, passed away earlier today at the age of 83. Here's a look at ten of the actress' vintage photos. Anita Ekberg was born on September 29, 1931, in Malmo, Sweden.
In 1951, Anita won the Miss Sweden competition, and then went on to participate in the Miss Universe pageant in the US.
Ekberg lost the Miss Universe title, but became a Hollywood model.
After entering modelling, Anita took on small acting roles in Hollywood films, before landing her big break.
It was Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita, where Anita played a movie star, that catapulted her to stardom.
After La Dolce Vita, the actress earned the epithet of the 'Sex Symbol of the 60s'.
Ekberg was married twice, but none of her marriages lasted long.
Her first marriage was to Anthony Steel in 1956, and the two parted ways after four years.
Anita's second marriage was with actor Rik van Nutter, which, too, failed.
In an interview in 2006, Ekberg had said that she regretted not having children. She had said that she would have liked to have a child, but "it did not turn out that way. That's life; you just have to accept it."

It’s a multibillion-dollar industry, and while its top stars have the potential to rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, many new performers could be paid as little as $390 per movie, The Sun reports.
And those behind the scenes aren’t paid nearly as well as their Hollywood counterparts, despite the industry’s multi-billion pound price tag.
That’s according to founder of LA Direct Models, Derek Hay, a man who represents many top adult performers and used to work as an actor himself.
He told The Independent a female actress could expect to earn $1300 for a scene with a man, and $895 for a scene with another woman.
This pay could go up or down by 10-20 per cent depending on who the actor is and whether they are well known, he added.
However, jobs in the porn industry are not as lucrative as people might expect, even for performers at the top of their game.
“I don’t think that adult stars make as much money as the general public perceives them to make,” Mr Hay said.
“I don’t think there’s anybody, even the biggest stars, who are making more than half a million a year. But if some of the top stars are making £240,000 to £320,000 [$390,000-$520,000] per year, by most people’s perception that would still be a lot of money I think.”
Mr Hay said it was a “universally known” fact that women are paid “a lot more” than men — but blokes get the opportunity to do more jobs. Actors also earn premium rates as an incentive to perform scenes they haven’t done before.
America’s CNBC did their own research — and delved into the earning of everyone involved in the making of adult movies, from those in front of the camera to the production assistant and the writers. Here’s what they found:
• Female actor in straight scene: $390 — $1950
• Female actor in scene with another woman: $910 — $1570
• Production assistant: $130 — $330

Porn star Ryan Madison has been accused of sexual abuse by at least 10 co-stars who allege he used his wife Kelly to lure women in.
Madison, a porn veteran, runs Kelly Madison Productions, with his wife. On Tuesday it was claimed he is a 'serial abuser' who 'groomed' a number of women.
The adult movie star, 43, is said to have used an all female team 'to make him seem more trustworthy' before subjecting them to non consensual scenes.
Describing her scene with Madison as a 'horror movie' Kinsley Karter says she was just 21 when she says she was abused by Madison. She told The Daily Beast : 'There’s usually some type of communication before, but there was absolutely none at all.'

She describes the California home where they shoot scenes to be 'in the middle of nowhere', adding: 'The main reason I’m speaking out now is because I didn’t have any warning, and I want to warn other girls about him.'
One agent said: 'The girls can feel very isolated out there, way the hell out in the middle of nowhere, and he got increasingly rougher and increasingly intoxicated.'
Annabel Redd was one of the first woman to publicly accuse Madison, tweeting on June 5: 'do not watch my porn fidelity scene. that man violated my boundaries.'
Iranian-American Arabelle Raphael was 27-years-old when she says she 'was put in a nonconsensual race scene' and forced to 'put on a belly-dancing outfit'.

Madison's videos have more than 46 million views and he has won numerous industry awards.
One accuser, Lexi Lore, said she was just 19-years-old when she was abused by Madison. She said: 'Ryan Madison is so well-known as a rapist in the industry.'
Another, Jane Wilde, who was also 19 when she says she was assaulted, added: 'They had all women on set, so I felt empowered. It really made me put my guard down. Then I left the house of women. And that’s when it started to get very predatory.'
'It’s a strange dynamic when a guy is trying to hurt women and is using his wife to make him seem more trustworthy', she added.
Amber Addis said: 'It’s almost like you’re being groomed to get your guard down, because as soon as her husband arrives, she just disappears.'
Ryan and Kelly have not commented on the allegations. DailyMail.com has contacted the couple for comment.
