Advanced StreetComplete

I continue to write about OSM editors, and today we're going to talk about the non-obvious features of StreetComplete.

StreetComplete is a mobile editor that hides all the complexities of OSM from you by asking you simple questions about establishments, roads, etc. Be sure to try it out: streetcomplete.app

The editor is simple and straightforward, but not all of its features are immediately noticeable

1. Notes with photos and GPS tracks

Did you know that you can leave a note with a long press on the map? And not just a text note, but with a photo and GPS track:

Feel free to take a few photos - they are good clues for other mappers to follow!

2. Cutting roads

Sometimes StreetComplete asks about roads that are difficult to walk completely. Or roads with multiple pavements. Many people give up at this step, but all you have to do is scroll down, click Other options→Different at different sections, and cut the road into smaller chunks.

You can cut any road, but you need to turn on Overlays to do so. Speaking of which.

3. Adding establishments

StreetComplete recently introduced Overlays, which allow you to edit one aspect of a map: addresses, road surfaces, car parks, cycleways, ...

Especially interesting is the Shops overlay, which shows all establishments on the map. And allows you to add new ones!

You can also change the type of existing establishments to any other

4. Moving POIs

If you see that the shop is in a different location, select It's at a slightly different position... from the Other options or ⋮ menu

The maximum moving distance is 30 metres. But you can move the POI several times 😉

5. Quest Presets

Not all quests are always convenient to solve. In winter, the road surface is hidden under snow, and if you are travelling on a bus, you can't enter an establishment or measure the width of the street.

Go to ☰→Settings→Manage presets and create a preset with only the quests you want to solve

Presets can be shared with friends. To do this, press ⋮
