When it comes to baby nursery ideas, my wife and I just went through the process… Yup, we moved when our son just turned 1, so we set up two nurseries. Our second one is much better. We opted for a neutral nursery theme with a dominant color being orange (it’s a fun bright room with a cave-like area). Before you even start thinking about color schemes and nursery decorations, there are a few must-have items, which are: Crib: We opted for a crib that turns into a toddler bed. For something different, check out round baby cribs (collection of 16 round cribs). Changing Table: We opted for one with a very large square top, which is amazing because it provides room for the baby and supplies on the surface. The base of the changing table is a dresser – another strongly recommended feature.
Dresser: Clothing, clothing and more clothing. You’ll want ample storage for your baby’s clothes. Rocking chair: We had a traditional rocking chair which was okay. I strongly suggest investing in a contemporary glider chair because they’re much more comfortable. Diaper disposal: Get one that seals and that’s easy to remove garbage bags from. You’ll be changing the bags a lot. Laundry hamper: Did I mention you’ll be dealing with a lot of dirty clothes? Having a hamper in the room is a nice convenience. Handling a baby can get chaotic so you won’t always be able to walk to the laundry room (count yourself fortunate if you can while changing your baby). Futon or bed: Hold off on this purchase, but you may have to spend some nights sleeping in the baby’s room. If this is the case, it’s a good idea to have a decent bed to sleep on. A futon is always a handy furniture item because you can use for guests once baby is sleeping through the night.
Mood/dim lighting: We’re fortunate with lights that dim, which is great when our son wakes up. Flicking on full strength lights when your baby wakes up is tough on their eyes. That about sums up key nursery furniture (sorry, but that’s just the nursery… wait until you start buying toys and other baby items for the living area, the car, bathing, etc. If you buy furniture second-hand, you won’t have the luxury of color coordinating. Your baby won’t mind and it’s easier on your wallet. However, if you’re buying new, you might as well color-coordinate your furniture. We opted for all white baby furniture, which is a great unisex nursery color scheme. It looks great with our bright orange painted walls.
