For this one, we’ll look into how critics are reacting to The Lego Batman Movie, the first trailer of The Lego Ninjago Movie, a bunch of TV show trailers (Tangled: Before Ever After, Dragons: Race to the Edge, and the Samurai Jack revival) and finally some new characters for My Little Pony: The Movie.
Everything is still awesome in The Lego Batman MovieCritics are loving this movie! As you probably have known, 2016 was a rather lacklustre year for DC movies, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Killing Joke, and Suicide Squad ending up as critical disappointments. But who would have thought that a plastic Batman would end up being far superior than last year’s efforts? That seems to be the case with The Lego Batman Movie, the first spinoff of The Lego Movie franchise. Although not nearly as acclaimed as The Lego Movie, Batman’s solo Lego adventure left critics very impressed. By providing dazzling animation, tons of great jokes, and loaded with DC references, The Lego Batman Movie is a fun reminder of what makes the Dark Knight such an iconic superhero. Wall Street Journal critic Joe Morgenstern said that “It’s really funny, though, an animated sendup of comic-book epics that vanquishes solemnity with the power of supersilliness.” Owen Gleiberman of Variety described the movie as “kicky, bedazzling, and super-fun”, and Rene Rodriguez of Miami Herald praised the film by questioning “Who could have guessed, in the era of non-stop comic-book pictures, that a movie that uses toys as protagonist would do the most justice to the enigmatic Bruce Wayne?”.
The Lego Ninjago Movie - Trailer 1 We aren’t done with Lego movies just yet. Not only is there The Lego Batman Movie, but in September of this year, we’re also getting The Lego Ninjago Movie! We got our first sneak peak with the animated short The Master (which was attached to screenings of Storks), and now we have the first action-packed trailer! Based on Lego’s highly-successful Ninjago lineup, it features everything you’d expect from such a movie. Giant monsters and robots, ninjas, action, fighting, jokes, you name it, it’s all there. What director Charlie Bean (Tron: Uprising) has implemented into the story of six ninja defending Ninjago is that one of them, Lloyd (Dave Franco of Young Justice) is actually the son of the villain Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux of Megamind). Not really a spoiler since that fact is prominent in the trailer, but still interesting. It’s very interesting to see The Lego Movie build up into a cinematic universe, and from the trailer, Ninjago looks like a lot of fun.
I must say the production design in Ninjago especially is pretty stellar. If you’re keen to check out The Lego Ninjago Movie, Warner Bros. will unleash it in theatres on September 22. A big bunch of TV series trailers This week we had plenty of trailers for upcoming animated shows. Since two of these three are related to Animation Source sites, and were reported on the French side by Nakou, it would be criminal not to bring them up here. So without further ado, here are the three trailers! Dragons: Race to the Edge | First up is Season 4 of Dragons, the television/Netflix series of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon. Titled Dragons: Race to the Edge, Season 4 will follow Hiccup and the dragon riders as they come across more bounty hunters and even bigger dragons. Even though I’m a big How to Train Your Dragon fan, I have not seen any episodes of the Dragons series. But I have heard it’s pretty good, and a nice filler between the movies, so I’ll check the series out when I get a chance.
All Season 4 episodes can be viewed on Netflix from February 17.Tangled Before Ever After Disney’s Tangled is making it’s way to the small screen in Tangled: The Series. But before that happens, we gotta take a look at what happened before Ever After in… well, Tangled: Before Ever After, the feature-length pilot that will kickstart the series. This new advertisement gives us a little bit more of what to expect, as well as the reveal of a new villain. Disney Channel will air Before Ever After on Friday, March 10th, so mark your calendar if you’re ready to reunite with Rapunzel and Eugene! Samurai Jack Season 5 Trailer Finally, we get our first look at the highly-anticipated finale of Samurai Jack. This is set 50 years after the events of Season 4, where Jack no longer ages, and Aku has destroyed every time portal. Even if it takes him an eternity, Jack will go through whatever it takes to get back to the past at last. It’s really great to see Jack back for one last time after over a decade, and this trailer sure has me pumped.
With what’s in the trailer, Genndy Tartakovsky and have really pushed in great effort, and it defiantly shows in the dark, yet stunning visuals, and it seems really promising to be a great conclusion that fans have been wanting for so long. For those totally hyped, the first of ten episodes will air on Adult Swim on Saturday, March 11th at 11pm ET/PT. New characters in My Little Pony: The Movie As bronies and pegasisters anticipate the release of My Little Pony: The Movie, more details about the project emerge to build up the hype. In this announcement, we get our first look at new characters that will be exclusively featured in the movie. From left to right: Capper, Tempest Shadow, Princess Skystar, The Storm King. These new characters include a cat-like creature named Capper (voiced by Taye Diggs of Chicago), Tempest Shadow the dark purple unicorn (Emily Blunt of Gnomeo and Juliet), Princess Skystar the yellow sea pony (Kristen Chenoweth of Rio 2), and The Storm King (Liev Schreiber of Ray Donovan).
