Editors' note: Mild spoilers ahead for "The Lego Batman Movie" and other DC superhero films. "The Lego Batman Movie," which opened Friday, has done something no recent DC superhero movie has pulled off: juggling a giant cast while being a fun film. Last year's "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" packed in a wide cast of superheroes to set up the forthcoming "Justice League" team-up movie, leaving "Dawn of Justice" sprawling and unfocused.

"Lego Batman" does a much better job keeping the focus on the cowl-wearing hero even among a dizzyingly vast cast. Audiences apparently flocked to this approach, with the film reportedly raking in $55.6 million and taking the No. 1 spot at the US box office during its opening weekend. As director Zack Snyder continues work on his first "Justice League" film, due this year, there are aspects of the brick-built Batman movie I hope can make the jump from Lego to live action. "Lego Batman" opens with an absolutely giant action sequence that showcases nearly every famous Batman villain you can think of. It's a brilliant way to kick off the film, and it quickly brings audiences into the story. What it barely does, to its benefit, is try to explain who most of the villains are beyond a super-fast introduction. When Bane comes on, he immediately speaks in a voice reminiscent of his depiction in 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises," and that brings a fast familiarity to fans of Batman films.

All I learned about Lego Catwoman is that she says "meow" a lot. And that's all anyone needs. "Dawn of Justice" stalled when it switched focus to Ezra Miller's Barry Allen/Flash, Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Ray Fisher's Cyborg. When "Justice League" officially forms, hopefully we can get the bare minimum of what we need to root for these heroes, and leave the rest of the character development to their standalone movies. Over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who didn't immediately fall in love with Tom Holland's Spider-Man debut during "Captain America: Civil War" -- all without even an ounce of that origin story? It's refreshing to see a film that trusts the audience already knows enough about these iconic heroes. The live-action DC movie universe so far isn't exactly known for its levity, but hopefully "Lego Batman" can help lighten things up. The block version of Batman spends much of the film acting like a brooding loner, but he doesn't lose his sense of humor. Watching the hero heat up a lobster dinner and then gear up to watch his favorite romantic films by himself (all while still wearing the cowl) humorously nails the point that he prefers to be alone without making me sad about it.

Similarly, when other Lego superhero characters eventually make their appearance as part of a celebratory gathering, the movie revels in the campiness of having so many costumed figures in one place.Hopefully the "Justice League" movie will draw on the fun factor of DC's Lego universe along with "The Flash," "Arrow" and "Supergirl" TV shows, which are far less bleak than the movies. Now, I'm not expecting Ben Affleck's Batman to have words appear in the air when he throws punches, but maybe Henry Cavill's Superman can smile once in a while (when he's inevitably done being dead). DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year It's time for the annual Hero of the Year ceremony and the students of Super Hero High compete for the top prize. But the festivities take a turn when Dark Opal targets the heroes and ... Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman will lead the DC Super Heroes against their most infamous foes.Back in 2014, I saw a collision of two worlds I loved dearly: movies and Lego. Hence, The Lego Movie was born. I must admit, when I first heard about the project back in 2012, I was quite skeptical. But after a fantastic trailer, they completely sold me on the movie. It's definitely one of the best animations of the last 10 years, and it's crazy how it didn't even get an Oscar nomination back in 2015!Since that colossal hit, Lego have brought their latest project to the big screens: The LEGO Batman Movie. Thankfully, this vibrant, exhilarating adventure opened to fantastic reviews from fans and critics alike — which opens up more avenues for the Lego franchise.

A stellar teaser for the The Lego Ninjago Movie has already been released, and with the indisputable success of The Lego Batman Movie will surely lead to more Lego movie spin-offs down the line. One of the greatest aspects of The Lego Movie is the absolutely stellar cast. From the silly comedy of Chris Pratt's Emmet to the bad-ass hilarity of Batman, every character is hilarious in their own right. So, here are five such hilarious Lego characters who deserve their own Lego movie spin-off. Liam Neeson's role as Good Cop/Bad Cop was one of the most hilarious surprises of The Lego Movie, showing us a fantastic side to Liam Neeson we'd never seen before. His seamless transitions from good to bad (and back again) provide some of the funniest scenes of the movie. My favorite aspect of Good Cop/Bad Cop is his constant need to just kick any random chair that's near him. As much as I'd love to see a spin-off with Good Cop/Bad Cop, I think it's quite unlikely. On the plus side, though, I'm sure he'll definitely be in The Lego Movie sequels.

There's no denying that Benny was one of the stand-out characters from The Lego Movie. His constant urge to build a spaceship was absolutely hilarious to watch. Charlie Day played this role exceptionally, and I can't imagine anybody else in the world doing this character justice. I'm so down to see a movie starring Benny, whether it be a #prequel with him as an astronaut, or a follow up to The Lego Movie. Now, I know what some of you are thinking: "Isn't there already a Lego Justice League movie?" The answer is yes and no. #Lego and Warner Brothers have quite often made low-budget Lego movies aimed at kids, which they release straight to DVD or streaming service. They've done this with numerous properties, but they aren't canon, as in they're not connected to the theater movies that are getting released (like the #Batman above is not the one we see in The Lego Batman Movie). So my proposal is that they release a fully fleshed-out movie about the Justice League. I think we can agree The LEGO Batman Movie is better than Batman v Superman, so could the Lego Justice League Movie beat the live-action version too?

Captain Metalbeard is another one of the stand-out stars from The Lego Movie, and I'd love to see him get his own stand-alone movie in the future. He was played brilliantly by perfectly cast Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation, 22 Jump Street). I'd love to see a movie showcasing his ocean travels, and maybe even get a Pirates of The Caribbean crossover? One cameo that I adored in The Lego Movie was when Lando and Han Solo turned up to help the gang. Since seeing this scene, I've yearned to see them get their own spin off. Over the years, Lego has made some fantastic #StarWars games, including games based of the original movies, the prequels and The Force Awakens. I think it's time to move on to the big screen, by making one of the many anthology movies #Disney keeps talking about. It might seem childish and might drive away some Star Wars fans, but in a world where Power Rangers is getting a gritty movie adaptation, anything is possible!Next up on our list is one of the most likely options: Wyldstyle.
