Beds have to be in very good condition with no rips, tears or stains and have a fire label sewn on referring to BS7177. All electricals have to be in good working order. We love unusual items too, so if in doubt give us a call.We have stores selling good quality used furniture and electrical goods in Norwich, Dereham and Holt. Our Re-use shop at the Foxhall Household Waste Recycling Centre in Ipswich sells a wide range of items which have been donated by people across Suffolk. Kidstore is a volunteer-run shop next to the schools on Manor Road in North Walsham. It sells children's toys and clothing which have been donated. All our stores take in donated items and the profits they make by selling them helps to fund all our other work for children, families and adults who need our help. Last year we gave away over £8,000 worth of furniture household equipment that helped over 240 families in Norfolk. By taking good quality items from people that may otherwise throw them away we saved over 7,000 items from going to landfill. This includes over 100 tonnes of furniture and 20 tonnes of electrical goods. We provide training opportunities for apprentices to help give them business and retail skills.
Case Studies - Training at Norwich Furniture Store Simon Fraser - Simon joined us as a warehouse Apprentice in February 2013. He has been on a Manual Handling and Fire safety course and is currently studying Warehousing and Storage NVQ level 2 through Norwich city college. Simon has undertaken training in all aspects of work in our store, which includes customer service, answering the telephone, booking in collections and deliveries, till work, pricing and stock control, loading and unloading, use of straps and ratchet, dealing with customers at point of collection and delivery, cashing up and banking. Nathan Lamb - Nathan completed a four week work placement in November 2013. This is a Mandatory Work Activity organized through Seetec, a training organisation also based on Oak Street. Nathan has completed a basic Manual Handling and Fire Safety course. Most of his time spent with us is working on the van completing deliveries and collections. He has also been involved in strapping items safely in the van and has also been trained in logging items into the stock book.
