Be the first to see new properties for sale in Lyndhurst Property for Sale in Lyndhurst Be the first to see new properties for sale inRecently featured on the Tastemakers Africa Johannesburg list of best Airbnb's in Africa and in the British Airways in-flight magazine full page article on the rise of Joburg CBD, this huge (2500sqft/230sqm) apartment is spread over the 9th, 10th and 11th floor of the heritage (listed), former Barclays Bank HQ, building on the oldest street in Johannesburg. It's less than 10 minutes walk to the closest Citysightseeing open-top hop-on-hop-off tour bus stop, about 25 minutes from Johannesburg airport and 10 minutes away from the Gautrain station, giving direct access to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the airport.

It is also less than 10min Uber ride to Maboneng, Braamfontein, Joziburg lane and the Sheds@1Fox street, making it perfectly located to experience the city's urban revival and access the coolest parts of Jo'burg, whilst not having to put up with the noise that goes with actually staying in these areas. The layout of the apartment was designed so that the main living spaces would all benefited from outdoor space and the amazing city views. On the entrance floor of the apartment there is a Master bedroom suite which incorporates a large en-suite bathroom (with a huge walk in shower as well as a separate bath) walk-in-wardrobe and extra length queen sized bespoke four-poster bed; a second bedroom which also has an extra length queen bed, cupboard and a desk; a third bedroom with two extra length single beds; The middle floor of the apartment has an open plan living area (with a fabulous woodburning stove), dining area (with a six-seater dining table) and gourmet kitchen with slate counters, bespoke handmade cabinetry and stainless steel Smeg appliances.

All of which creates an amazing homely room to hang out in.A wrap around balcony that gives some of the best views of Johannesburg's historic old city centre, available. All of the bedrooms and the main living area have triple-glazed windows to keep the city sounds out and the warmth in, during the short South African winters. An iron spiral staircase leads up from the living area, to the top floor deck room, with access to the roof deck which has ample seating around a fire pit, plus a built in bbq/braai and Jacuzzi with North facing (sunny side) city views. The apartment also has a Sonos wifi sound system so if you have downloaded the Sonos app (from the iPhone or Android App Store) you can play music from your phone, PC or tablet wirelessly, in any of the main rooms.3 things guests like about my place...It's 5 minutes away from the party capital of Maboneng, but far enough away to be quiet at night. Chilling out on the amazing roof terrace. The open plan main floor, with the amazing kitchen and roaring fireplace 3 things they don't like...

It's not in a posher suburb like Sandton. The Jacuzzi takes a long time to heat up. The spiral staircase that leads to the roof is quite narrow.Guest will have exclusive access to the entire apartment plus wifi, satellite TV, the Jacuzzi and the roof deck. You will also have access to the communal (shared) roof top swimming pool.I travel a lot, so unlikely to be in town during your stay, however the building manager, Dylne, lives in the building and he will be available to assist with keys handover etc.The minimum stay is two days as but I can do accommodate single night stays, during the week, but at a night rate approximately 30% higher. Also I have another 3 bed apartment in the same building. So, if this apartment isn't available for the whole time you'd like it, please send me a note. I quite often have guest that will stay in this apartment for a few days and experience penthouse living, then move down one floor to the other apartment for the rest of their stay.Think Brooklyn New York, Downtown LA, Brixton, Shorditch or Hackney in London, 20 years ago.

Jo'burg has finally broken free from the chains of its troubled past. And, lead by 'Urban cool' centers such as the CBD, Maboneng and Braamfontein, is now listed amongst the best places to visit, in the Southern Hemisphere (do a web search on recent Johannesburg articles in publications such as Rough Guide, GQ Magazine and The Guardian for a non-biased opinion).I love that my apartment in the CBD, is right in the middle of this regeneration. Trendy markets, galleries and underground clubs and bars mix it with the banks and mining house HQs. This is the oldest part of, what is actually a very young city. With the old bank and mining house HQ's, it was the 'Square Mile' of Southern Africa. In the 1980's and 1990's lots of the businesses started to move out to new suburbs like Sandton and central Jo'burg fell into disrepair. Then in the early 2000's the CBD urban renewal started.Busy during weekdays and very quiet in the evenings, the CBD is not as 'manicured' as newer parts of the city, but it's certainly on that trajectory and improving by the day.

I'd recommend anybody book one of the many inner-city guided walking tours to get a full appreciation of the CBD.The CBD, alongside Maboneng and Braamfontein are urban regeneration centers of Johannesburg, where youth and arts culture prevail. missioner Street is the oldest street, in the oldest part of Johannesburg. It's within a 9 or 10 block area that was originally modeled on neoclassical city centers. It maintains its old New York/City of London look and feel. It's thriving during the week and very quiet at the weekends. The CBD does not have the glistening shopping malls or high electric fencing of the Northern suburbs. It's has maintained it's more traditional city center layout, with wide sidewalks, street cafes and is bathed in a real creative energy. Whilst the cafes and art galleries have always been around, the growth of the weekend farmers/flea markets, in the surrounding suburbs, over the past five years, makes it a great base for weekend excursions. Neighbourgoods market (Braamfontein), Arts on Main (Maboneng) and The Sheds@1fox (Fox street) are all 5-10 minutes away.

The building itself overlooks some of Johannesburg's most historic and beautiful buildings. Built in the 1940's by one of old Johannesburg's foremost architects, Gordon Leith, it is constructed of sandstone in the architectural style of the "Modern Movement Era", but includes many Art Deco features. It is a building preserved under the National Heritage Act, has a state of the art security system backed up by CCTV and a 24hr security guard presence. From the airport I'd recommend one of two drivers, Jacob and Kearan (both of whom also offer tours of Soweto, the Lion Park and other parts of Johannesburg), who we could connect you with, to arrange to fetch you. Uber works really well within Johannesburg! Definitely recommend using it to get around locally. The apartment is also 10 minutes away from the Guatrain station and there is a Rea-Veya (rapid bus service) stop right in from of the building, but we only ever use it to go to rugby matches. It is one of the oldest buildings in town, there are often film shoots happening either in the building, or on the surrounding streets, at the weekend (the area looks like NY or London, but is cheaper and has better light).
