MN Furniture Store Doubles In Size, Plans To Add Jobs A rendering of the expanded Woodbury location In order to contend with heavy competition, Schneiderman’s Furniture is expanding its Woodbury showroom and plans to add about 10 new jobs. Schneiderman’s Furniture is expanding its Woodbury location from 35,000 to 70,000 square feet and will be raising the roof of the building by 20 feet on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lakeville-based furniture business has five showroom locations—Plymouth, Lakeville, Duluth, Roseville, and Woodbury. After the expansion, the Woodbury location will be the third largest, behind the 80,000-square-foot site in Lakeville and the 110,000-square-foot site in Plymouth. In addition to the expansion, Schneiderman’s is renovating the interior and exterior of the Woodbury showroom, “we are revamping the whole space, it will hardly be recognizable when it’s finished,” Larry Schneiderman, who describes himself as the company’s “sofaman” of the board rather than chairman, told Twin Cities Business.

After the expansion and renovation, Schneiderman said the company will also add about 10 new hires to its previous 16 employees in Woodbury. Schneiderman said the business has “grown nicely since the difficult years of 2007 and 2008.” This recent expansion is coming right after a "wall-to-wall" renovation of the company’s Roseville location last year. Competition is heavy in the furniture business, especially in Woodbury. The expanding showroom is near a Hom Furniture store, a Slumberland Furniture store, across the street from an Ashley’s Furniture store, and also competes with Thomasville Furniture, Ethan Allen, and a Becker Furniture World store down the road. “You have to be improving what you’re doing all the time just to be in the hunt,” said Schneiderman. “So we’re always looking for new growth opportunities, and often that means expansion, as well as renovation." Schneiderman says Hom Furniture is their biggest competitor, “But we have less of a ‘mass-furniture approach’ than Hom—we have a more personal touch,” he said.

“Our goal isn’t to sell you a couch but to sell you the couch.” While the roof is just now being raised for the second level, the expansion construction began August 1. The store is expected to reopen on January 1. Schneiderman’s Furniture has a total of 200 employees spread throughout its five locations. Woodbury employees are currently working at other sites until the expansion is complete. Schneiderman did not disclose the cost of the expansion or the company’s total annual revenue. , at Exit 19B. LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA -- We bought a living room set 2 years ago. It is the 2 of us. We are 60 years old. The matching chairs fell apart. The cushion fabric (a sturdy polyester) frayed. The frame on both chairs broke. We bought an additional warranty and they gave us the runaround. They did nothing to make it right. I have 35 year old chairs that are still in good shape. These chairs are junk. We have bought a lot of furniture from Schneiderman's. PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA -- I recently went to Schneiderman's to purchase a living room grouping for my nephew. I only went to them because I had a gift certificate from them due to having purchased furniture for myself back in 2006. The salesman in Plymouth, **, was dishonest about their price matching. I got conflicting information from **, the website manager the Plymouth Store Manager, and ** who seems to think he can control people from contacting the corporate president Larry Schneiderman. They had umpteen excuses why they would not give me the "lowest price guaranteed".

In fact, it took them SO long to respond that I found a second lower price. The first they decided must be "false" and ** went so far as to say if I bought from an online seller I would end up with unusable furniture! They had a winter sale going on at the time and in it is a coupon for $100.00 off if you buy a fabric sofa. We did that and they REFUSE TO HONOR THEIR OWN COUPON despite the fact that the only "exceptions" to it are for brands we were not buying. ** has now decided that he can tell me, a consumer, that I MUST contact only him, not Larry, the President. Clearly he knows he is wrong and is trying to cover his backside. Their furniture is greatly overpriced, the staff has demonstrated a lack of integrity (and/or just flat out lied and/or not been trained correctly) all for the princely sum of $100.00 on their OWN SALE COUPON. I have not heard from Larry Schneiderman, the President and CEO, despite several emails shared with him. Apparently he's "too busy" or "too important" to reply to my emails.

I can't believe a company that touts itself as being so "wonderful" would treat a senior citizen this way, all for a lousy $100.00! STAY AWAY, THEY DON'T DO WHAT THEY ADVERTISE! PRICES EXCESSIVELY HIGH AND THEY GIVE YOU A LOT OF HASSLE! LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA -- Schneiderman's advertises the lowest prices on Sealy mattresses. We bought a Sealy pillow top bed from their Lakeville Minnesota furniture store. They had a big sale in the newspaper. Several weeks later we heard from some friends that they bought almost the same exact bed from Slumberland for hundreds of dollars less. The problem was that Schneiderman's uses their own model numbers so they can have extremely high prices, but then advertise "the lowest prices on Sealy in Minnesota guaranteed". Major companies don't carry the same models. After doing some research, I found that even Macy's/Marshall Fields had almost the exact same bed for significantly less money. They do the same thing for furniture. Don't believe their ads.
